Last night we hosted a premiere of our short film about patron Adjoa Andoh's trip to Ghana to visit our projects earlier this year. A huge thank you to Adjoa for her continued support (and excellent drumming!), Wild by Tart for hosting us, Dreaming Fish Productions Ltd for their work on the film, Joseph Rochford Gardens Ltd. for providing gorgeous trees for the evening, WILDFLOWER FAVOURS LTD for their wild seed packets for guests, Prestige UK for the cookware they donated to our raffle, and to One Drum Africa for bringing the energy all evening 💃 Stay tuned for the public launch of the film coming soon!

Thank you all so much for your support and kind words. What a day the London Marathon is. So many good vibes, the crowd, fellow runners and volunteers are all amazing. To any one thinking it may be a good idea - just sign up. You won’t regret it. On the day I went out a little too fast. It it felt easy - at that stage. Official time 4h59,59. Had to stop briefly around mile 16. It was a real struggle from mile 20. The crowd, (music, drums, jazz, sweets, calling out your name!…) and the support from sponsors all gets you around. I really felt part of a team. The crowd 4 or 5 deep the majority of the way round and at the end even more, at places it was like running through a supporting stadium. One hell of an experience. 50 year celebrations begin at Rochfords In February 1974, Joseph Rochford Gardens Limited was incorporated as a limited company. It was originally a subsidiary of Joseph Rochford and Sons Ltd. a company founded in the 1860’s by Paul Rochfords great grandfather. 🛳️🌳🚢🪴 Quite a bit of coverage, including BBC radio 4 Today, on the Dover Council financial/biosecurity issues around April. That’s my hook to talk about the plant trade…. UK horticulture face the biggest changes: 🌱April changes will mean 7000 expert POD (at site) checks shift to a handful of BCPs (near ports). Plants/trees/bulbs etc all high-risk = 100% checks 🌳BCPs don’t have the capacity or equipment to handle our goods (and no full testing until April 😳) = delays or losses 🚨11 weeks to go and just at start of peak plant trade/gardening season so busiest time ❓long unanswered question list, no published plan, nothing clear we can communicate to members, no costs (at the moment we’ll be forced to pay for something unuseablr) 💷 no govt common user charge published yet! This will guide how much private BCPs charge £££ Industry has no idea on costs/pricing beyond April until we know this?! ❌alternatives like CPs are hugely complex and costly, but we’re trying and easements will not be ready before April and are completely inaccessible to SMEs 📣👂🏼we need government to not just talk but listen to UK horticulture who deliver for the UK environment, green spaces, tree-planting, jobs, economy and 30 million gardeners (& we know what we’re talking about we’ve traded globally for years) 💚the Horticultural Trades Association t HTA’s team are working tirelessly for members and ask our members to write to ministers & MPs ASAP! Congratulations to WasteNotWantNot (https://lnkd.in/eqEp2bUF) on their Kings's Award for Voluntary Service announced on 14th November 2024. This is the UK’s highest award for Volunteering which is equivalent to an MBE. From the thousands of organisations nominated across the UK Waste Not Want Not is one of just 262 voluntary groups to receive the prestigious annual award. The work they do uses horticultural therapy to support adults with social and mental health challenges. It is also a social space for those in the community who embrace nurturing plants. Confidence skills and friendships have been built amongst the 70 individuals who attend the Roebuck site every week. This award acknowledges the committed enthusiastic volunteers at the highest level.
