Our 2024 CARE Awards ceremony yesterday evening showcased the phenomenal talent we have across the council, recognising how hard our staff work to live our CARE values (Collaborative, Ambitious, Resourceful and Empowering) every day as they help us to strive to create a more equal future for Islington. We were entertained by the rhythms of steel pan drummer Kyron Akal and our incredible host, Jermain Jackman kept the good vibes going, guiding us through a night filled with inspiring stories. As a special treat Jermain wowed the crowd with his amazing singing voice. Last weekend, we hosted a special event for young traders at the newly improved Chapel Market to help them hone their skills and meet new customers. The event, organised by NMTF, included a competitive element as the young traders did their best to impress a panel of judges. The winner, Jess, runs a business selling hand-made accessories for dogs, called When Dogs. 🐶 Cllr Santiago Bell-Bradford was one of the judges. He said: “Chapel Market has a long history of supporting new businesses and I am so pleased to see the next generation of traders making the most of the improved facilities here at Chapel Market." If you know someone who needs some help with their career, this summer is the perfect time to take advantage of the support on offer in Islington. We offer a huge range of employment support and opportunities, including from our dedicated iWork team. We also have the Progress team who work with young people to help them figure out their next steps, whether that's in education or employment. #DoSummer #EmploymentSupport #MarketTraders #YoungTraders

Today marks the end of National Co-production week, so we’d like to show you how we worked in partnership with people from Nailour and Boston Estates to deliver exciting new projects for the community. This is part of our commitment to put residents at the heart of everything we do and give them a say in the things that matter to them. We had £15,000 from London Councils and asked local people how it should be spent. There were 12 proposals put forward, five of which were then chosen by residents. Here’s what some of our residents had to say about the team and the project overall... #CoProWeek

It's official, the polls for today's General Election are now closed! 🗳️ Our teams began the day by laying flooring at 6am at the Tennis Centre where we'll be counting votes. Then at 7am we started opening our polling stations with hundreds of voters casting their ballots every hour until now. We've had over 500 people working over the 24 hours of the General Election this year! Now ballot boxes will be delivered to the Tennis Centre where over 150 staff will be opening and counting tens of thousands of votes, with hundreds of observers and over 40 journalists on site. The night has just started for us! 😅 How did you find voting today? Did you remember to take your photo ID to your polling station? Let us know in the comments below, and thank you to everyone that took the time today to vote! 🥳

Mayor of Islington, Cllr Anjna Khurana explains why she has chosen Brickworks Community Centre as her Charity of the Year, in yesterday's Islington Gazette. "In my first speech as Mayor, I stressed that at Brickworks the doors are open to all, no judgements, no questions, just support, care, and compassion. My partnership with them will centre around building connections with residents to raise awareness of Brickworks and encourage wider communities to get involved. Through this, we hope to grow volunteer numbers, donations, and use of the centre's services." Read the column below👇
