Many digital designers overlook accessibility, describing it as anything other than beautiful and often complaining of its limitations. Ironic right? According to the World Health Organisation, 1.3 billion people globally, or 1 in 6, have some form of disability. In 2023, over 96% of the top one million web pages had accessibility issues. (Themeisle - https://lnkd.in/eEVYYBDG) So, how can you ensure #BeautifulAccessibility in your organisation's designs? Grab Your Audience's Attention: Designers and creators can use vibrant, high-contrast colour palettes. This results in big, bold, beautiful, and impactful designs that grab attention for everyone. Check Colour Contrast: Ensure that the contrast between text and background colour is at least 4.5:1, to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards. Note that very high contrast can make reading difficult for some, including those with dyslexia and colour vision deficiencies. Be Direct and Clear: Simplify text and information to allow brands to make big statements quickly. This saves time for designers, developers, and users. WCAG recommends aiming for a reading age of 9. We would love to hear your tips on implementing #BeautifulAccessibility in the comments below. [Video description - A statistic is written in dark blue to the left of the image, and reads: '96% of the top one million web pages had accessibility issues in 2023'. The numbers of the percentage are animated, and begins at 0% quickly increasing until it reaches 96%. On the right, the corner of a mobile screen can be seen with the dictionary definition of the word "design". Along the bottom of the video is a maroon footer, in line with Invuse branding] #Accessibility #AccessibilityInTheWorkPlace #PublicSector #AccessibilityMatters

Did you know 1 in 5 people in the UK may struggle to use your website? Do you know who they are and what barriers stop them coming to you? Making changes to your content, information architecture and accessibility can help your business: 1. Include everyone Accessibility means everyone can use your website, no matter their abilities, to get the information, services, and products they need. 2. Make it easy for everyone Designing websites, apps, and physical spaces with accessibility in mind improves usability for everyone. This can result in higher customer satisfaction and loyalty. 3. Reach more customers There are more than 14 million disabled people in the UK with a spending power of £274 billion, according to the UK Government Disability Unit. Prioritising accessibility can help you reach an often overlooked market segment. 4. Increase trust Demonstrate your commitment to social responsibility and inclusivity. This enhances public perception of your brand, builds trust, and strengthens your relationship with customers. 5. Stay legal In the UK all public sector organisations must meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards and, from October 2024, services will be monitored for WCAG 2.2 AA compliance. Non-compliance can result in legal actions, fines, and reputational damage. Invuse supports organisations with accessibility training, auditing, and implementation. Information Architecture (IA) - keeping it simple. Creating a user-friendly navigation can seem complex, confusing, and daunting. It doesn't have to be, and will benefit both your users and your organisation: 1. Improved Accessibility and Usability A well-designed IA enables users to quickly and efficiently find the information they need. This is critical for public services, where users need important information or services fast. 2. Inclusion and Equity User-centred IA makes navigation easy for everyone, including people with disabilities, non-native speakers, and those who have lower levels of digital literacy. By focusing on user needs in the design process your IA can remove barriers that might stop some users from accessing services. 3. Reduced Support Costs A well-structured IA helps people to self serve. Reducing support enquiries and calls allows staff to focus on more complex issues. Find out how our experts can help you engage with users to create a user-centred navigation for your platform: https://lnkd.in/dx28JZJJ #IA #InformationArchitecture #UserExperience #ContentAudit #ContentStrategy #Accessibility #PublicSector [Video description - The screen is divided diagonally into two sections in pink and blue. In the centre there is an outline of a workflow, which appears to be hand drawn in white. Above this the words Information Architecture appear, then the phrase "Why You Need To Keep It Simple..." appears below the workflow.]
