Innovation is the answer to many questions in the delivery industry, such as: what’s the most effective way to deliver mail to remote islands? In Scotland, Royal Mail launched its latest in a series of trials, using drones to deliver mail between the beautiful isles of Islay and Jura in the Inner Hebrides. Here, unfavourable weather and difficult geography are key factors, so finding new solutions to ensure reliable, efficient, and environmentally friendly deliveries is high up on the agenda. Today we issued our financial results for the first quarter of 2024-25. Both Royal Mail and GLS continued to deliver against a challenging macroeconomic backdrop, in line with expectations. ✉️ Royal Mail continued its positive momentum with good revenue growth in letters and parcels. 📦 GLS continued its good performance with volume and revenue growth. A week on, we take a look at the 2024 General Election and the sheer volume of election mail we directed through our network and into homes throughout the U.K.   Some key points:   ✉️ Royal Mail delivered the highest ever numbers of postal votes and candidate mail during the 2024 General Election campaign   ✉️ The return of postal votes increased by 50% in comparison to the 2019 General Election   ✉️ There was 30% more candidate mail delivered in 2024 than in 2019   The end result was an amazing 50.8 million poll cards, 7.26 million completed postal votes and 184 million pieces of candidate mail successfully delivered.   Our UK Operations Director for Royal Mail, Ricky McAulay, said: “Our well laid plans and experienced elections team meant we were well set up to deliver for this general election.
