We’ve also honed our Growth Recipes to use optimal light ratios and maximise energy usage to help bring operating costs down 📉. This particular lot look mighty vine, if we do say so ourselves 🍎.

We’re on track for a global population of nearly 9.8 billion people by 2050. This figure is staggering in itself, but factor in how much food will be needed to feed that population, and the scale of the challenge becomes very real. We’ll have to produce around 60% more food by 2050 to nourish everyone, all while mitigating the environmental impact of agriculture. This is a challenge, but by no means an insurmountable one. Vertical farming, alongside other waste-to-value systems, has a significant role to play in feeding populations at scale. With increased yield, efficient use of resource, and year-round crop production, we’re ready to meet future challenges head on. #WorldPopulationDay

Last week, members of Team IGS convened in Edinburgh for another of our ever-popular (and productive!) hackathons! This time, we focussed on ways we could improve the overall user experience of our Growth Tower Management System (GTMS). We’re always looking for ways to innovate our offering, and we find that often the best way is by getting our super-talented team in a room together and bashing out solutions. Prizes on the day ranged from the best overall enhancement, to whichever team could put away the most coffee and donuts! Whatever gets the creative juices flowing, team 🫡☕.

AI has huge, untapped potential in agriculture. By its very nature, it can home in on elements and spot things which are almost impossible to catch with the human eye. We’ve been long-time admirers of the rich biodiversity across North America and the diverse vegetation which covers the continent – none more so than the oak. A symbol of America, the oak is the largest, oldest and arguably most magnificent tree in the country.
