About us

Located at Grangemouth, some 40km west of Edinburgh, one of INEOS’ largest manufacturing sites directly employs 1300 highly skilled people. The 1700 acre site is home to Scotland’s only crude oil refinery (producing the bulk of fuels used in northern Britain) as well as world-scale petrochemical plants. The refining and petrochemical complex comprises two businesses: Petroineos (a refining joint venture company between INEOS and PetroChina) and INEOS Olefins and Polymers UK . The heavily integrated plants together with associated infrastructure and services provide unrivalled opportunities in the UK for employees to gain experience and develop their careers across many and varied engineering disciplines. The O&P UK chemicals business has recently undergone a radical transformation with significant investment of c£500m driven by the ethane supply project. This investment is heralding a new era in petrochemical manufacture at Grangemouth.

INEOS FPS Floatel 2024 Campaign Successfully Completed The Unity Platform plays a pivotal role in the transportation of oil and gas from the central North Sea as a hub and collection point for a number of subsea pipelines. Periodically there is a requirement to carry out larger scale campaigns of essential maintenance, inspection and upgrades to ensure it remains available to our customers who use this vital piece of infrastructure to bring their oil and gas to the market. And whilst Unity is a ‘Not Permanently Attended Installation’ (NPAI), during the 90 day 2024 Walk-to-Work campaign it became a hive of activity with around 60,000 hours expended by personnel housed in an adjacent connected Floatel. Alan Cruse, INEOS FPS Asset Manager, explains, “Investment in our infrastructure is extremely important to ensure we remain Safe, Reliable, Sustainable and Competitive to 2040 and beyond. Undertaking maintenance works to equipment on shore can be challenging enough, however being almost 100 nautical miles off shore brings its own set of unique challenges for Unity campaigns, not least the safe deployment of skilled employees, vendor partners and equipment/materials to support continuous working day and night shifts.” Given the number of personnel involved, the three month event required the Floatel Superior (pictured) to be safely positioned (with DP3 Dynamic Positioning systems) immediately adjacent to Unity for the duration of the campaign. This floating facility was a key component in the success of the campaign, providing a permanently connected gangway between the facilities ensuring seamless access to Unity - enabling a wide range of scopes, including essential Fabric Maintenance, Construction, Inspection, Project and Maintenance activities to be executed by INEOS and contractor partners. Concluding, Alan says, “The successful completion of our 90-day Walk-to-Work 2024 Campaign on the Unity platform depended upon the close cooperation and collaboration between many different companies and organisations. It was a testament to the dedication and hard work of our core FPS teams and contractor partners and would not have been possible without their tireless efforts. This was demonstrable through our very strong working relationship with our Campaign Principle Partners : Bilfinger UKPetrofac and Floatel International AB.” Did you know, during the 90 day Walk-to-Work 2024 programme: 60,000 hours were worked. 1,437m2 of coatings applied across pipework, receivers and steelwork. 410 metres of new pipework installed. A full destruct & replacement of platform drain systems was undertaken. 140 tonnes of scaffold was used to facilitate scopes 45 vendor partners supported the workscopes.

On Monday we welcomed the O&P UK and FPS Engineering Interns to the site. During their 12 week summer placement the interns will be embedded within specialist engineering teams gaining hands-on experience from Day One, underpinning their academic studies. For us, they offer a fresh perspective and we get to learn from them too. As part of the induction and familiarisation, the undergraduates, from University of Glasgow and University of Strathclyde, got the opportunity to explore the Grangemouth site and also climb to the top of our Ethane Tank. Our interns and graduates have an important role in the success and future of our businesses. If you’d like to find out more about life at INEOS please visit https://lnkd.in/eTP-x-bM

Watch this new video about the construction of the concrete outer wall of the Project ONE ethane tank, a precision job that took 15 days of non-stop work. More than 1,300 employees continue to build Europe’s most sustainable ethane cracker. Go to our LinkedIn post last week to watch a similar video about how the tank floor slab was poured. Later this year, the steel roof will be installed and then further work will be carried out on the interior finishing.   Visit the Project ONE website to learn more: https://lnkd.in/enx8Gr2T cc Rob Ingram, Liz Rittweger, David Kirkwood, Adrian Popa, INEOS BELGIUM, INEOS, John McNally #netzero #chemicalindustry #plasticsindustry #energyefficiency #belgium

Mixing it up …. pupils at Dalmeny Primary School spent a morning investigating ‘mixtures and separation’. From the contents of household recycling bins to lego bricks, the pupils learned about mixtures before undertaking hands on experiments overseen by INEOS colleagues that demonstrated different techniques for separating solids, liquids and gases. We hand-picked, dissolved, evaporated, filtered and decanted and discovered along the way that some changes were reversible and others irreversible. Thank you for inviting us in to school last week to deliver a STEM-related workshop and to talk about the real world applications for separating mixtures.
