We encourage all our employees to volunteer to help in their local community and allow them to take a days paid leave to do so. Recently Rebecca Jewell in our Finance team has helped out at the Lewy Body Society a local charity based in Wigan and promotes support and research for Lewy Body Dementia, a little known but common type of dementia. The “Scarf for Lewy” event is in it’s third year and promotes the symbolism of the wrap around support the Society provides to the sufferers of Lewy Body Disease and their carers. The day saw supporters, ambassadors, researchers, local councillors and carers come together to promote the disease in addition to groups who are there to support dementia in general (Dancing for Dementia being one of them). The scarves will be seperated and some sold to raise funds for the charity, others made into blankets for The Brick Charity (also based in Wigan). https://www.lewybody.org/

This week's energy market update: Gas and power contracts have edged higher this week. Supply risk premium remained in the market ahead of heavier Norwegian maintenance from August 30th. This came despite comfortable wider fundamentals, with steady LNG arrivals and high storage levels. Bullish support initially came from geopolitical events. Over the weekend there were renewed attacks on Ukrainian gas storage, whilst an extension to the Ichthys LNG outage in Australia increased competition for LNG amongst Asian buyers to meet higher cooling demand. Despite this, upside was limited as seasonal contracts found some technical resistance and as the week progressed, the market remained rangebound. Meanwhile, movement in the Brent crude oil market has been turbulent this week although the front-month contract does appear set to end the week higher overall. The market has found support from the unfolding issues in Libya as factions of the country’s government fight over the control of oil revenues. This has resulted in a significant drop in Libyan output as several oilfields have closed. There are suggestions that c.1 million barrels per day are currently being lost. The development has only added to existing concerns over oil disruptions in the Middle East. Oil prices do, however, also remain influenced by concerns over demand in China and the current strength of the global economy. Elsewhere, the Dec ’24 European carbon market is flat week-on-week with movement in prices closely correlated with the Dutch TTF gas market.
