Without careful planning and maintenance, the turnaround procedures of a fluid catalytic cracking unit can be dangerous, with the risk of flash fire and injury coupled with exposure to high temperatures and a hazardous environment. Until recently, isolation of the reactor and main column was a costly and time consuming process, so through ongoing consultation with site managers across the world, it became clear that a new approach with easier actuation would offer considerable advantages.
