Earlier this year, Ice Nine were pleased to aid the team at the University of Nottingham with the deployment of their disposable snake robot at the NRS Dounreay site!! 📢📢📢 Check-out our video from our demonstration of our Micro UAV technology!! 📢📢📢 Back in June, Matthew, Liam and Zhengyi demonstrated the outputs from our FIS360 Ltd Game Changers proof of concept UAV project, hosted by challenge owners Sellafield Ltd in the Centre of Excellence. There were key stakeholders in attendance, both from Sellafield and further afield, with a lot of interesting discussions generated and incredibly valuable feedback 📋 This marked the culmination of an 11-month project, awarded after a successful feasibility study, where we developed a UAV and associated components, capable of successful deployment and retrieval through 140mm diameter access ports. This body of work has been funded to enable visual inspections of hazardous environments in nuclear decommissioning environments, and will hopefully lead to deployment of the technology, improving the safety and efficiency of inspection tasks across the industry. On the 13th June, Matthew Nancekievill, Liam Brown and Zhengyi Jiang travelled to the Sellafield Ltd Centre of Excellence on the Leconfield Industrial estate to demonstrate the result of our PoC project over the past year developing a micro-UAV capable of deployment and retrieval through less than 150mm diameter bores. Lots of interesting questions, discussions and feedback from a whole host of stakeholders from the Sellafield site and beyond. 📢 We are pleased to announce that in collaboration with Design Driven Solutions Ltd. we have been awarded PoC funding through the Game Changers scheme run by FIS360 Ltd to further develop our miniaturised camera for inspection of Sellafield Ltd assets!!! 📋 Our system will include a high resolution image sensor, bespoke lighting, position localisation and be capable of being passed up to 1m through a 19mm bore. Yes, 19mm!! 🤖 This is an exciting project with the potential to deploy in an active environment on completion of the PoC, offering a step-change in inspection capabilities when compared to previously used borescopes. #GameChanger #inspection #nuclear #robotics #innovation #camera #robot #decommissioning #Sellafield

Matthew presented at the Nuclear Industry Association Inter business group event today on the journey Ice Nine has taken from concept to realisation, highlighting the key milestones from academia to commercialisation. A fantastic event, and some really interesting discussions regarding how the general population view nuclear, how the election might affect strategy and how everyone in the nuclear industry can be champions of what we view as an important part of the UK's energy security and sustainability goals! This project really showcased the ability of academia to develop solutions for real-world challenges in a never thought of before way. We were happy to lend a small hand in helping with the deployment on site of this fantastic technology 👷♂️.
