🌟Celebrating South Asian Heritage Month! From 18th July until 17th August the UK celebrates South Asian Heritage Month (SAHM). ☀️ What is South Asian Heritage Month? ☀️ South Asian Heritage Month was established to celebrate South Asian history and culture and is an opportunity for us to learn more about the countries in South Asia and their heritage. 🗣 Founding Patron of SAHM, Anita Rani said: "South Asian Heritage Month is about the next generation of kids growing up in the UK and for them to be able to feel empowered in their identity and proud of who they are." The theme this year is 'Free to Be Me'. ☀️ What countries are in South Asia? ☀️ South Asia is made up of eight countries: Afghanistan; Bangladesh; Bhutan; India; The Maldives; Nepal; Pakistan and Sri Lanka. ☀️ How is SAHM celebrated? ☀️ 🗣 Jimmy Kumar, our iCAN Birmingham Lead and Client Executive Senior VP - Risk Management Practice at Marsh tells us: "South Asian Heritage month is all about celebrating culture, uniting communities and sharing our stories. Not only do we commemorate the hardship, struggles and sacrifices made by our ancestors but rejoice the rich values, traditions and the sense of identity instilled over many generations. Its a time to celebrate, commemorate and educate. To get involved, there are many events hosted across the UK and you can find these at https://lnkd.in/esM6-tZv - definitely take a look!" Thanks Jimmy - and let us know if you'll be celebrating! 🔔 Stay tuned to iCAN: The Insurance Cultural Awareness Network for the latest news and updates. 📌 Become an iCAN member here: https://lnkd.in/eWEXEnns #network #culture #southasianheritagemonth #sahm #sahm2024

🏆 What a session with the brilliant Jason Harris! We had a very inspirational session this week with Jason Harris - CEO of QBE Insurance! in the latest of our "Coffee with the CEO" initiative! ☕️ What is “Coffee with the CEO”? ☕️ In an effort to connect our members and provide them with access to senior executives across the insurance sector, we work with our sponsors and partners to pull together an all-star cast of C-Suite individuals from across the industry to host small group sessions with iCAN members to discuss all things from career-advice, their views on the industry to their journey - essentially everything you need to empower your own career. This week we hosted an in-person session in London with Jason! Some of the key points Jason raised: 🔑 It is important to explore different roles - Try and take advantage of opportunities to work in various parts of the organisation. This diversifies your skills and provides a broader perspective on the market. 🔑 The criticalness to embrace adversity. Adversity teaches invaluable lessons. Lean into challenging situations as they are pivotal moments for growth. 🔑 Take risks! Be bold and say yes to opportunities that push you out of your comfort zone. Organisations value and support those who take calculated risks. 🔑 Mentoring matters - it is valuable to seek mentors who challenge and guide you. Learning from their experiences, especially their failures, accelerates your own growth. 🔑 Stay curious, be visible within the organisation, and actively listen to others. This openness will give you the opportunity to continually grow and learn. Thanks to Jason and our Sponsors QBE for a fantastic session! ---------------------------------- ▶ Looking for a mentor?
