We are thrilled to welcome Roberto Alcaide, Human Resources Manager at Hyatt Place London Heathrow Airport, as Co-Chair of Women@Hyatt UK. Roberto will support the chapter in its mission to cultivate and maintain an active network; fostering a culture supporting a gender diverse and inclusive workplace; in specific to support the needs and advancement of women at Hyatt. Roberto shares why he joined the Chapter and what he looks forward to the most. 🔹 When did you join Women@Hyatt UK and why? I joined the W@H Chapter in June 2024 as Co-Chair, and will be working alongside our Chair Gabrielle Desroches Hutchison and our working group leads who focus on three areas: Awareness, Development and Networking. I am passionate about gender equality, and I am proud to be part of a group whose mission is to foster a gender inclusive culture that allows colleagues to be their best. 🔹What will you bring to the chapter? Firstly, I would like to educate myself more. Hearing from women at Hyatt will support me in being a strong ally for women and in encouraging male allyship. I will also strive to foster a culture to support a gender diverse and inclusive workplace. 🔹Favourite quote championing women? “If you stand for equality, then you are a feminist.” This quote is by Emma Watson during an interview on International Women’s day in 2015. 🔹What are you the most excited about for the future? I am excited about the Women@Hyatt UK Chapter making a difference and I look forward to creating a positive and lasting impact. Additionally, with more Hyatt properties opening in UK & I, it is inspiring to see more female General Managers and more female representation within senior leadership roles. We are currently recruiting for a variety of roles across the region, and this is a great opportunity to join a team that is passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion and is a mosaic of cultures, ethnicities, genders, ages, abilities and identities. Last week, and in conjunction with 'World day against trafficking in Persons', volunteers from Women@Hyatt UK came together in support of Ella's, a charity that helps survivors of trafficking and exploitation to recover and build lives that are safe and free. For the second year in a row, our volunteers rallied around to build furniture and do a spot of cleaning and painting to help get one of the charity's newest safe houses ready. A huge Thank You to Ella's for having us and for inspiring us once again with their incredible work - and to all our volunteers for their time and support 🙏 At #Hyatt, we invest in the communities where we work, live, and operate - not only to accelerate positive change in them, but to bring more opportunities, hope and joy into people’s lives. #HyattWorldOfCare #WomenAtHyatt Arnaud de Saint-Exupéry Dawn Turner Gabrielle Desroches Hutchison Roberto Alcaide Jeanne A. 📢 We are thrilled to announce that three of our #Hyatt UK colleagues are finalists in the Purple Umbrella Awards. The awards are held by Umbrella Training Ltd to recognise top hospitality apprentices across the UK. Meet the finalists: 🔹 Federica Cicirello is Assistant Human Resources Manager at the soon-to-open Park Hyatt London River Thames. She started her CIPD Level 5 Apprenticeship in January 2023. So far, the apprenticeship has significantly enhanced her understanding of HR practices and principles, enabling her to contribute more effectively to the organisation. 🔹 Francesca Cortinovis is Events Operations Assistant Events Manager at Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill. She completed her Hospitality Supervisor Level 3 apprenticeship, which she thoroughly enjoyed. It helped her grow personally and helped improve her English. It also gave her the confidence to be a leader and a better understanding of the different personalities we encounter, whether it be colleagues or guests. 🔹 Veronica Ferreira is Assistant Front Office Manager at Great Scotland Yard - The Unbound Collection by Hyatt. She started her Hospitality Supervisor Level 3 – Front Office Supervisor apprenticeship in May 2022. Since then, she has noticed a significant improvement in her leadership skills and in her ability to provide support to the team. The practical skills covered during the programme also helped her understand how to better plan and organise herself. She is now on her third career promotion with Hyatt and definitely credits the apprenticeship in helping her to achieve this. Good luck to our finalists on 13th September! At Hyatt, there’s a home for every stage of your career. We nurture curiosity and roles at Hyatt will help you learn new skills that support your personal and professional development. #InAHyattWorld #PurpleUmbrellaAwards2024 #PUA24 Arnaud de Saint-Exupéry Dawn Turner Jeanne A. 💙 Today marks the 10th World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. Established by United Nations in 2014, the initiative aims to raise awareness of the widespread criminal act of human trafficking, which affects many millions of vulnerable people globally. Across our hotels in the UK, Hyatt colleagues donned a blue heart badge in support of United Nations’ #BlueHeart campaign against human trafficking. At #Hyatt, we respect the fundamental human rights of all people, and our zero-tolerance approach to human trafficking reflects our deep commitment to human rights and the dignity of people everywhere. #HyattWorldOfCare #CareConnectsUs Arnaud de Saint-Exupéry Dawn Turner Jeanne A. Care defines us at #Hyatt. We see it in the way we treat each other and our guests, and we channel this strength into our vision for evolving the future of #hospitality. Today we catch up with Mélissa Brette Ogée, Director of Human Resources at the soon-to-open Park Hyatt London River Thames, who shares the most rewarding aspects of her role as well as current vacancies at the property. 🛎 Most rewarding element of your job The most rewarding part of my job is the privilege to work with a diverse group of experts from various backgrounds and cultures. This experience is both fulfilling and humbling, as it broadens my perspective and supports my growth. Additionally, contributing to a more inclusive world as Head of Networking for #Hypride EAME aligns deeply with my values. This makes my work not only professionally satisfying but also personally meaningful. 🛎 Favourite Hyatt benefit My favourite benefit is being part of my Hyatt "family." Over my 11 years with Hyatt, I have met wonderful people, including inspiring mentors, sponsors, and some of my closest friends. I must also mention the twelve complimentary nights per year, which allow me to explore the world while feeling “at home”. 🛎 Favourite Hyatt hotel It is so hard to choose, but I will pick the most recent property I fell in love with: Thompson Madrid, part of Hyatt. Beyond being the embodiment of luxury lifestyle, this property has partnered with two artists who shine a spotlight on women. We can discover the paintings of iconic Spanish women by Daniel Esteban, and I particularly loved 'The Unknown' photographs by Andrea Torres Balaguer. 🛎 Are there opportunities to join your hotel just now? We are currently looking for colleagues to join our pre-opening team at Park Hyatt London River Thames. Today marks #WorldYouthSkillsDay. Launched a decade ago by United Nations, it is an opportunity to celebrate the importance of equipping young people with meaningful skills for employment. In collaboration with Ingeus, we invited 80 Young People who are currently not in work or education, to meet with our teams across our UK hotels and discover the world of #Hospitality. The Young People were given tours of our properties and had the opportunity to meet various Heads of Departments to find out more about the industry. At #Hyatt, we’re passionate about people and opening doors to new opportunities. In line with our company’s purpose – we care for people so they can be their best – we work with community-based organisations around the world to help young people rise to their full potential. #RiseHY #CareConnectsUs #InAHyattWorld Arnaud de Saint-Exupéry Dawn Turner Natalie Power Darragh O'Shaughnessy Assoc.
