We'd like to wish our Group Chief Financial Officer, Lee Bond, good luck as he moves on to the next phase of his career at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. Of all our Group executives, Lee has worked across both Trusts for the longest time, starting at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in 2012 and taking on the role of CFO at Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust in October 2020. He's achieved many things in that time, earning the respect of our consultant body, raising thousands for our hospital charities and even spending time as a dining companion, helping patients at mealtimes. Thank you Lee, for all you've contributed, and good luck in your new role.

Teams across Castle Hill Hospital and Hull Royal Infirmary were thrilled to be asked to take part in a new service user video to help people with brain injury. Staff working on C1 Complex Rehabilitation unit and colleagues on HRI’s neurosurgical wards 4 and 40 were invited to take part in the film by the PAUL for Brain Recovery charity. Filming took place this week in order that the teams could explain how the hospitals and the charity work together to prepare people for life beyond hospital care; not just those patients with a brain injury but their families and loved ones too. The relationship between the Trust and Paul Spence, who established the charity, stretches back years. Paul suffered a brain haemorrhage in 2012 after becoming the victim of an unprovoked attack, and a number of the staff who cared for him at the time still work on our wards today. Now, the charity supports not only the wards and their patients with charitable donations, but also provides hospital in-reach, care packages for patients while in hospital, and a source of ongoing advice, advocacy, support, and a social network once people have been discharged. Rehab consultant, Dr Abayomi Salawu senior nurses Paul Johnson and John Berridge, and our PAUL nurse champions, Sarah Wilson and Phoebe Youngs, have all taken part in the recording to encourage those who may benefit from the charity’s help to reach out. A surgical team in Hull is among the first in the UK to conduct battery changes for vagus nerve stimulators in a dedicated day case facility. Neurosurgeon, Mr Adam Razak and his colleagues are carrying out the procedures, which can revolutionise the management of epileptic seizures in suitable patients, in the new multi-million pound Day Surgery Centre at Castle Hill Hospital, Cottingham. Not only does this mean the likelihood of short-notice cancellations is reduced, but it also allows the team to carry out more procedures per day, helping us to improve the patient experience, reduce waiting lists and make better use of both staffing and theatre capacity.
