Does protecting nature make investment sense? During COP16 Colombia for biological diversity, investors such as Aviva claimed that they expect nature-related action from the private sector to scale more rapidly than climate. We also saw Kering, GSK and Holcim be the first organisations to set verified science-based targets for nature. Despite the COP summit offering no clear path forward for global policymaking and failing to match the decisive conclusion of COP15 two years ago, it is creating momentum within industry. Yesterday I joined UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) conference on Embodied Ecological Impacts. The event showcased that whilst we don't know all the answers for this new topic, which mirrors its sister Embodied Carbon, there is rapidly scaling interest from the built environment sector to minimise the ecological impact well beyond the redline boundary of a site and across value chains. At Hoare Lea we are supporting our clients understand and respond to the risks, opportunities and dependencies they have with nature. Drop me a message if you want to find out how your organisation can benefit from increasing biological diversity.
