To grow our economy, we need to invest in industries that create jobs for people across the UK. Today the Prime Minister, the Chancellor and the Energy Secretary visited the North West and met with workers to announce major funding for two carbon capture sites in Teesside and Merseyside. The £21.7bn investment will bring billions of private investment into these communities and create 4,000 jobs. And it powers the UK to Net Zero. Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage technology will help to remove CO2 emissions before they reach the atmosphere, and store them safely beneath the seabed. Creating a greener future and growing our economy.

Chess is a sport that teaches strategic thinking, problem solving, creative thinking and a host of other skills. To grow the economy and unlock opportunities for the next generation, the government is launching Skills England, bringing together government, businesses, training providers and unions to meet the skills needs of the next decade and support local areas to develop the skilled workforces they need. Chancellor Rt Hon Rachel Reeves played young UK chess champions last month to speak to them about the news, and to play a game or two herself.
