    Hitachi Rail is set to deliver 200 new railcars for the Philadelphia metro! 🤝 After winning a contract with Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), our team will manufacture a new fleet of trains which will improve accessibility, capacity, and reliability on the line between New Market and Frankford. Key features will include regenerative breaking, automatic door operation and digital wayfinding displays onboard. The train cars will be built in our Hagerstown factory in North America, which adopts the latest green and digital technology.     This Thursday we present Tommaso Ballini, a Development Engineer for #TeamHitachi in Italy. Tommaso began his career with a Hitachi Rail internship, before becoming an apprentice Mechanical Car Body Structure Designer for railway vehicles. He loves collaborating with his colleagues, who continuously exchange knowledge and help each other grow.     We were delighted to host Nakahata Hidenobu on his first visit to the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Our Honolulu team took Hitachi’s Senior Executive on the Skyline metro - the US' first fully autonomous urban railway system featuring Hitachi’s trains and state of the art technology running the driverless system.     Last week, the Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Mr. Ken Saito and his delegation visited the Hitachi Rail plant in Reggio Calabria, after attending the G7 Trade Ministers Meeting. Stefano Santinelli, Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs, and Paolo Franci, welcomed the Minister and provided a tour of our state-of-the-art factory including the opportunity for the delegation to test a train "at the controls".     On Tuesday, #TeamHitachi and the Mayor of Rome unveiled our new state-of-the-art metro trains which will serve passengers on Lines A, B and B1 on Rome metro from 2025.   The new fleet will be capable of transporting 1,204 passengers per train and will use an automatic train protection system to safely regulate speed. The efficient design of the trains will enable them to achieve a 10% reduction on energy consumption compared to current services. The fleet has also been designed for enhanced passenger comfort and will be equipped with the latest generation of air conditioning system and improved acoustics.   Find out more about our new Rome metro trains here
