Are heat pumps noisy? Today a new Nesta report highlights having more than one heat pump running in close proximity will not audibly increase noise levels. The modelling has found that multiple air source heat pumps do not typically generate noise levels that would be distinguishable from a nearby single air source heat pump installed within MCS guidelines, even if the heat pumps generated their top noise level at full power at the same time. Heat Pump Association (HPA) reposted this
Out of the 108,089 MCS certified installations registered in the first half of 2024, around 27,000 of them were heat pumps. This means that 2024 is on track to surpass the current record-breaking year for this technology which is 2023, where the Scheme saw 39,270 heat pump installations in total. Charlotte Lee, Chief Executive of Heat Pump Association (HPA), said: “It is fantastic to see the continuing growth in heat pump installations within the UK, underscoring the progress and commitment from the sector in supporting the decarbonisation of heat. Clarity and confidence from the new Labour Government on the direction of travel for the electrification of heat will be crucial to continue the momentum and ensure we stay on track for a record year.” Read more on the succusses in the first half of 2024 here 👉 https://bit.ly/46kbO76 #HeatPumps #Data #PR #BoilerUpgradeScheme #SmallScaleRenewables

New advice from Historic England on Adapting Buildings for Energy and Carbon Efficiency: 📢 “Having an effective low carbon heating system is one of the best ways of enhancing an historic building’s energy efficiency. In the majority of cases, replacement of existing systems will not cause harm to special interest.” 📢 We’re pleased to see Historic England dispelling some of the myths around heat pumps - the impact on historic buildings is usually minimal, and can be reduced further with careful design and siting. For more information, including additional archeological considerations, read the full advice here: https://lnkd.in/ehfGnEcr #lowcarbonheating #heatpumps #historicengland

New European Heat Pump Market Report highlights the need to solve UK’s electricity and gas price disparity. The European Heat Pump Association’s 2024 market report highlights the crucial impact of a low electricity and gas price ratio in accelerated heat pump deployment. The report illustrates that those European countries with a high ‘spark gap’ (the ratio between household electricity and gas prices) also have a lower annual total of sales of heat pumps per household. Yesterday, the HPA met with the Climate Change Committee’s Built Environment Lead, Esther Harris, to discuss the role of low-carbon heating in Carbon Budget 7. The workshop included an overview of the CCC’s current modelling approach for Carbon Budget 7 and their assumptions for heating systems. It also provided an opportunity for HPA Executive and Full members to directly contribute to the CCC’s work around low carbon heating and the supply chain needed to meet our net zero carbon emissions. Thanks to all the members who attended. We look forward to continuing to support the CCC in their important work. #carbonbudget7 #netzero #lowcarbonheating

The Climate Change Committee has released their Progress in Reducing Emissions 2024 Report to Parliament today. Crucially the report states: the UK is not on track to reduce emissions in 2030 by 68% compared to 1990 levels despite a significant reduction in emissions in 2023. The report highlights only a third of the emissions reductions required to achieve the 2030 target are currently covered by credible plans. It stresses the importance of long-term consistent messages backed by decisive action and key policies to support investment and remove barriers to deliver the required step change. Many of the recommendations set out in the report align with the asks of the Heat Pump Association (HPA) those pertinent to heat pumps include: 👉 Making electricity cheaper 👉 Reversing recent policy roll backs such as the exemption of 20% of households from the 2035 fossil-fuel boiler installation phase-out 👉 Remove planning barriers for heat pumps 👉 Introduce a comprehensive programme for decarbonisation of public sector buildings 👉 Publish a strategy to support skills 👉 Accelerate the electrification of industrial heat Read the report in full: https://lnkd.in/enaqnJ3P Read our CEO, Charlotte Lee's initial reaction to the report below 👇
