This week Google announced that instead of deprecating third-party cookies by default in early 2025, they plan to allow people to choose whether they wish to accept or reject non-essential third-party cookies from running in the #Chrome browser. This ‘soft-landing’ will still significantly reduce the number of third-party cookies available to advertisers but will not be as dramatic as the edge-of-the-cliff moment anticipated by many in the industry. As the quote from Bede Feltham suggests – the host of our #EmbracingACookielessFuture webinar series – Google is no longer switching the lights off themselves, instead they're asking consumers to turn the dimmer switch down. The end result will very likely be the same, and we predict the direction of travel for the industry is still a cookieless future, and one we need to embrace. More than half of UK adults are concerned about fake news and AI interference in the upcoming election in July, according to a Havas Media survey. The study examined shifting consumer attitudes and behaviours during election periods and the potential impact on brands and consumer spending. Paul Bland, Chief Digital Officer at Havas Media Network, told The Media Leader that generative AI has "genuine implications for misinformation and deepfakes", with fake news already appearing in US and India elections.
