About us

Harbour Key is a business combining specialist tax, strategic business advice and funding knowledge with traditional accounting skills. Our team brings together professionals from tax, accountancy and legal backgrounds enabling us to deal with a wide range of issues. We operate our business with a ‘hands-on’ approach and we always strive to understand your long-term objectives using our holistic approach to help you achieve those objectives. Our client service is director led, and your day-to-day contact will be with a director or an experienced and senior member of our team. To help you move forward with your businesses and personal objectives, we always aim to give you our honest professional opinion and not simply provide a bland report full of caveats. We work extensively with owner-managed businesses across a wide range of industry sectors, both locally and across England & Wales. We also act for a number of non-UK resident/non UK domiciled individuals. We look to provide a holistic approach to working with a client, considering both the business, the individuals and their long-term objectives. We bring our specialist tax knowledge with a hands-on approach, backed by a general accounting and business support function. We work in general on a fixed fee cost basis, we agree with you from the outset once the scope of the work is understood. Our approach is to encourage client interaction, so we do not keep timesheets and we do not bill you for speaking to us.

🎉 Happy New Year from Harbour Key! 🎉 We hope your New Year started on a joyful note! As we step into 2024, here's a quick recap of what's been happening at Harbour Key. 🌟 Tax Filing Surge During the Holidays The holiday season brought unexpected excitement as 4,757 individuals filed tax returns on Christmas Day, and 23,724 took a break on New Year's Day to tackle tax admin. Kudos to the 127 who opted for midnight tax returns on January 1st! As we gear up for the January 31 deadline, we're prioritising client tax returns based on receipt order. ⚠️ Beware of Self-Assessment Scams A word of caution: Watch out for self-assessment tricksters! A fake HMRC text claiming a tax refund of £277 has been circulating. Remember, HMRC won't contact you via text or email for a tax rebate. Stay vigilant, and report suspicious activity. 🌊 Support for Flood-Hit Communities Communities affected by Storm Henk (2-8 January) can now apply for government support. Eligible areas in England can receive assistance for immediate costs, council tax relief, and grants to enhance flood resistance. 💼 NIC Cut - A Pay Raise for Many Starting January 6, The Chancellor's National Insurance cut is in effect! Employees will benefit from a 2p cut (from 12% to 10%), putting an average of £8.61 extra in their pockets weekly. Self-employed individuals will also experience a reduction from 9% to 8% on profits (effective April 6, 2024). 🚨 HMRC & Banking Challenges In the last month, we've highlighted our struggles with HMRC, and The Chartered Institute of Taxation has expressed concerns. Check out our latest blog about the additional checks imposed by banks, causing increased work and delays. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scottish Budget Highlights In December, Scotland announced its own Budget, with higher earners facing tax increases. Stay informed about the changes, especially if you're in Scotland or have business dealings there. 💼 Side Hustles and Tax Reporting For those with side hustles on platforms like eBay and Airbnb, be aware that income reporting to HMRC is now mandatory. Stay compliant to avoid penalties, and if you have questions, reach out to us! 💰 Increased VAT Investigations Bring in £11.4 Billion HMRC's rigorous tax compliance measures yielded £11.4 billion in unpaid tax. The focus on VAT investigations, especially for large businesses, resulted in a significant contribution. 🔄 Business Exit Strategies Amid Tax Uncertainty As political and tax uncertainties loom, two-thirds of UK business owners are considering exit strategies. If you're contemplating a business exit, we're here to advise and support you through the process. Wishing you a prosperous and successful 2024! If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out. https://bit.ly/47xIn0r

OCTOBER E-NEWSLETTER 2023 🍁 As autumn rolls in, so does the anticipation of the Autumn Statement on November 22nd. But it's not just falling leaves we're talking about—taxation is taking center stage in this election season. 🗳️💰 📊 According to the IFS, the UK might see the largest tax-raising period in parliamentary history, with an estimated £3,500 extra per household by the next election. Stealth taxes and a corporation tax hike are key factors. 🌹 The Labour Party's plans include changes in stamp duty, windfall taxes, and more. They're exploring the closure of tax reliefs to generate funds for spending commitments. 🏠 Property owners, beware! HMRC is cracking down on tax avoidance schemes for rental profits. 💼 And remember, beyond taxes, it's essential to have an updated Will and Power of Attorney in place for personal and business protection. 🌐 If you need guidance or have any questions, feel free to reach out to us. Your tax affairs are essential. 📅 Mark your calendar for the Autumn Statement on November 22nd, and don't forget the self-assessment paper return deadline on October 31st. #AutumnStatement #Taxation #ElectionSeason #UKPolitics https://lnkd.in/eigFWpmb
