So proud to have been recognised for the fifth year running as one of the #TimesTop50 Employers for Gender Equality. Such a privilege to be included in this list, and to work for a business that puts gender equality at the heart of what we do. There's always more work to do for the future, and I look forward to continuing to partner with our brilliant Gender Balance Network to make Hachette UK an even better place to work!
We're so proud to share that we've been recognised as one of the #TimesTop50 Employers for Gender Equality for the fifth year running in recognition of our ongoing commitment to improving gender equality in our workplace through our policies and culture. Lisa Waterman, our Group HR Director, said: “I’m thrilled that Hachette UK has been selected as one of the Times Top 50 Employers for Gender Equality for the fifth year running. I am pleased with the additional support we were able to provide staff in lower pay quartiles through our 2023 pay review, as well as the continuation of our Virtual Work Experience, our Diverse Future Leaders mentoring programme and the pay and progression panel events spearheaded by our Gender Balance Network. I am proud to work for a company that champions diversity, equity, and inclusion as part of its mission. We want to ensure we remain actively accountable and that we continue to work diligently to accomplish gender balance across all aspects of our business with initiatives like the review of our Family Leave policies, which will take place this year. To thrive, we must attract and retain the very best talent from a diverse range of backgrounds that authentically reflect our readership and the communities we serve. I’m excited to continue working towards this goal.” You can learn more about our inclusion on the list here: https://bit.ly/3VOaMfP #ChangingTheStory #GenderEquality #Publishing

Our ambitious near-term climate targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a corporate climate action organisation that enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis. The targets are a significant point in our climate journey, and to mark this important moment, we have established a year-round internal engagement campaign to inform and inspire staff, in collaboration with our employee Sustainability Network. The targets, which cover Hachette UK, and include our distribution business, Hachette UK Distribution, outline a clearly defined pathway to reduce all three scopes of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, helping prevent the worst impacts of climate change. The three commitments the SBTi has validated are: 1. To reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 emissions by 56.8% from 2019 levels by 2030 2. To source 100% of our electricity supply from renewable sources by 2030, up from 25% in 2019 3. To reduce absolute scope 3 emissions by 27.5% from their 2019 level by 2030 We are already halfway towards achieving our 2030 targets.
