About us

One of the largest Trusts in the UK, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust comprises five of the UK’s best known hospitals – Guy’s, St Thomas’, Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Royal Brompton and Harefield – as well as community services in Lambeth and Southwark, all with a long history of high quality care, clinical excellence, research and innovation. We work closely with a wide range of health and care partners to deliver the best care to our local population, and we play an active role in the integrated care systems (ICS) in south east and north west London. We have a long tradition of clinical and scientific achievement and – as part of King’s Health Partners – we are one of England’s eight academic health sciences centres (AHSCs), bringing together world-class clinical services, teaching and research. We are rated Good overall by the Care Quality Commission, and have one of the lowest mortality rates in the country. With around 23,600 staff, we are one of the largest employers locally. We aim to reflect the diversity of the local communities we serve and continue to develop new and existing partnerships with local people, patients, neighbouring NHS organisations, local authorities and charitable bodies and GPs. The dedication and skills of our employees lie at the heart of our organisation. We strive to recruit and retain the best staff to ensure that our services are high quality, safe and patient focused.

Updates

  • Guy’s and St Thomas’ has launched a new outpatient pharmacy service with Boots. Boots takes over operations at the two existing outpatient pharmacies at Guy’s Hospital and St Thomas’ Hospital from Monday 3 June. These pharmacies were previously run by Lloyds. The location of the pharmacies will remain the same, but the new arrangement should mean faster service with shorter queueing times, and additional seating has been installed at Guy’s Hospital for patients and carers waiting for their medicines. In addition to running the two hospital pharmacies, Boots has set up a separate pharmacy and distribution hub for patients of the Trust. This includes a service for some eligible patients, in consultation with their clinical team, to deliver medicines to their home or to one of a list of approved Boots pharmacies closer to where they live. This is available for eligible patients across the five hospitals of the Trust (Guy’s, St Thomas’, Evelina London, Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals). The outpatient hospital pharmacies at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals currently dispense 995 medicines a day which equates to over 360,000 medicines for more than 180,000 patients each year. The new hub will support the busy hospital pharmacies, providing additional resource to enable them to run a faster, safe and confidential service for all patients. Keith Thompson, chief pharmacist and clinical director for pharmacy and medicines, said: “We’re delighted to work with Boots as the new providers of our outpatient pharmacy services and to offer ways to support our patients through our new pharmacy model. “It’s really important to us that our patients get their medicines appropriately and in good time, and the new service should provide a good experience for our patients and carers.” Ashley Littlewood-Miller, national hospitals manager, Boots, said: “We’re thrilled to be open and are excited to see our partnership with the Trust evolve and develop into the future. Through this partnership we are committed to enhancing patient experience and look forward to providing care and support for patients through the outpatient pharmacy.” Find out more about outpatient pharmacy services at Guy’s and St Thomas’, including opening hours and the medicines helpline, on our website: https://lnkd.in/ddUCyuHE

  • Last month we marked Pride Month with events and activities for staff, including attending Pride in London.🌈 Thank you to our LGBT staff networks for hosting some great educational, social and wellbeing events. The networks meet regularly throughout the year to discuss key issues and initiatives and organise social events to support our LGBT colleagues. They also offer support and advice in the workplace and provide access to mentoring, links to other LGBT networks, and information about local events and organisations. How to get involved: All staff, including allies, are welcome to join the LGBT staff network meetings which are advertised to members and on our staff intranet. Staff can search 'LGBT Network' on the intranet to find out more. #PrideInLondon #TeamGSTT #LGBTplus Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals

Two of them are holding up rainbow coloured umbrellas and the people in the front row are holding up a big banner which is a rainbow flag with a blue box over containing the Guy's and St Thomas' logo and some text that reads 'Proud to be part of the NHS'. It's a sunny day and everyone looks happy.
  • Yesterday our Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Armed Forces Programme hosted an event in the St Thomas' Hospital garden to commemorate Armed Forces Day. Staff, patients and visitors enjoyed music from the Welsh Guards band, blessings from our multi-faith chaplains as well as information stands from members of the Armed Forces, organisations supporting the Armed Forces community and our staff networks. Speaking at the event, Chief Executive Professor Ian Abbs said: "This is an important day for us, when one great national institution, the NHS, celebrates and gives thanks to another, the Armed Forces. We have good reason to thank our colleagues from the Armed Forces, not only for all they do at home and abroad to keep us safe, but specifically for how they support us here at Guy's and St Thomas' and in the wider NHS." Guy’s and St Thomas’ is part of the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance and proud to be a Veteran Aware hospital. We have signed the Armed Forces Covenant. • In case you missed it, this month we celebrated our annual Nursing and Midwifery Week. There were plenty of events and activities for everyone to get involved in, including a poster competition, specially themed menus, awards, talks, a career development board game and information stalls. It was a great opportunity to share the fantastic work of our nursing and midwifery colleagues, celebrate their achievements and to say thank you for everything they do. Staff set up information stalls around our hospitals and community services to showcase their work and to provide career development and wellbeing advice. The Nightingale Academy held an event with excellent speakers and presented our new Nightingale nurses and midwives with their awards. The celebrations ended with an uplifting awards ceremony where teams and individuals were recognised for their outstanding work. Take a look at our photos from the week. • As a part of our sustainability strategy we are committed to reducing our building and transport emissions, reducing single-use items, and maximising our green spaces. However, did you know that as a part of our strategy we are reducing the environmental impact of our food too? We source ingredients from our local community, promote healthy and nutritious plant-based meal options, and are taking steps to reduce food waste in food production, in our restaurants and cafes, and in our wards. Most recently, you may have seen a new more sustainable meat added to our menu. This month we introduced venison at Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Royal Brompton hospitals for our patients and staff to enjoy. Venison is a highly sustainable source of meat – and is a similar price to beef. Sourced from Scotland, deer are free-range animals and have a low carbon footprint. On top of this, venison is a great source of protein and vitamins and has fewer calories and cholesterol content than most farmed meats. Chef Ned, catering chef manager who led the roll out, said: “We have been working on this project for over a year, and I am so pleased that we are now able to introduce this sustainable, healthier, and delicious red meat to the menu at our hospitals for our patients and staff to enjoy.” Thank you to our catering team who hosted a special venison-themed day at Shepherd Hall at St Thomas’ Hospital to mark the introduction of this sustainable meat to our menus. #TeamGSTT #Sustainability #HospitalCatering

  • Congratulations to Dr Vishakha Tripathi who is the first consultant genetic counsellor to be appointed an Honorary Fellow of the Academy for Healthcare Science. The fellowship was given in recognition of Dr Tripathi’s contribution to her profession and to wider healthcare science. Dr Tripathi says: “It feels like a personal moment of breaking the glass ceiling for me, but more so for all colleagues in genomic medicine and genetic counselling who tirelessly champion why what we do is important and how much it matters to our patients. I am grateful for the honour and also quite emotional if I am honest and hope it inspires many.” #TeamGSTT #HealthcareScience #GeneticCounsellor

🎤 Did you know that the mother of Welsh actor and composer, Ivor Novello, started singing for breathing classes at the Royal Brompton in 1926? Almost 100 years on and the Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals arts team are continuing this tradition to enhance the mental and physical wellbeing of respiratory patients at our hospitals. Find out more about what the team does in this week's episode of More Than a Hospital as part of #CreativityandWellbeingWeek https://lnkd.in/e-VhmWB7
