Founder @ Guidesight | Helping Businesses Unlock Growth Through User Experience

Four months in building Guidesight, fueled by filter coffee and unlimited ambition! This is my journey so far as a bootstrapped startup founder: For the past three years, I've been developing a UX audit framework. This experience, which involved auditing nearly a hundred websites and mobile apps, laid the groundwork for Guidesight. In early 2024, the idea for Guidesight as a usability audit SaaS application solidified, and I began design work. The initial two weeks involved coding the first pages myself. However, I quickly recognised the need for more experienced developers as it's been four years since I last wrote code. I brought on two talented individuals who have been invaluable ever since. Bootstrapping requires wearing multiple hats – I am the CEO, designer, developer, marketer, and everything in between. There's no time to waste, and help isn't readily available. Fortunately, I received crucial assistance from a few amazing people, whom I want to take this opportunity to thank. Designing, redesigning, and iterating became a constant loop. The pressure to deliver a phenomenal user experience, knowing this is the core of my product, was and still is immense. Subsequently, I conducted two weeks of usability sessions with nearly 15 participants. As expected, further changes and redesigns were necessary. Throughout this process, I continued freelancing to cover developer costs and my personal expenses. There's no time to be lazy or take a break. To quote Robert Greene, which I absolutely adore, "It's easy to be lazy if you don't have any emotional connection to what you're involved in." Resourcefulness and a constant flow of ideas have always been my strengths. I've never been short on business ideas – in fact, I often have several per day. The number of improvement ideas for Guidesight is a testament to my faith in its potential. Four months in, and with all the hard work behind me, I feel like I'm just getting started. There's so much more work to be done. While I understand the importance of launching with a minimum viable product (MVP) to avoid resource depletion before user testing, my desire is to offer the best possible MVP. My clients deserve the best. Would I do it again? Absolutely, a million times over! Bootstrapping forces you to become resourceful and find solutions to any problem. The learning curve has been incredible, and I've acquired invaluable skills. This is just the beginning, and I'm incredibly excited for the future! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about Guidesight.

At Guidesight, we understand the allure of a visual refresh. After all, first impressions are important! However, a common pitfall in the digital product space is prioritizing aesthetics over user experience (UX). Here's the analogy we like to use: redesigning a website before a UX audit is akin to replacing a car's engine based solely on a worn-out paint job. Just as a mechanic wouldn't replace a functioning engine, a UX audit helps identify the core functionalities of your digital product that are working well. This crucial step uncovers underlying usability issues that a redesign might not address, such as slow loading times, confusing navigation structures, or unclear calls to action. Taking the diagnostic process a step further, usability testing allows us to observe real users interacting with your product. This invaluable process helps uncover hidden pain points and opportunities for improvement that traditional audits might miss. By prioritizing UX audits and usability testing before a redesign, you gain a wealth of data-driven insights. This allows you to develop a targeted redesign plan that addresses specific user needs and avoids costly design revisions. Ultimately, it leads to a product that not only looks good but also delivers a seamless and enjoyable user experience. Have you encountered instances where a redesign missed the mark due to skipping the UX research phase? Share your experiences in the comments below!
