We’re one of the UK’s leading disability charities. We’re here to help people with sight loss live the life they choose.
About us
We are Guide Dogs. And we’re here to help people with sight loss live the life they choose. Children and adults. Friends and family. Whoever you are, our expert staff, volunteers and life-changing dogs are here to help you: Live actively. Our people and dogs can help you get out and about with confidence, going wherever school, work, or play takes you – and knowing that your sight loss won’t hold you back. Live independently. The advice and skills we provide will give you the freedom to live life on your own terms, in your own way, so that you can achieve your hopes and ambitions, and do all the things that make you… you. Live well. Our experience and understanding can help you through the emotional challenges of sight loss as well as the practical ones, introducing you to an inspiring community of people with similar experiences and giving you the support you need to be your best self. We have an amazing community of over 15,500 volunteers across the UK. We’re also almost entirely reliant on donations to continue our life-changing work. There are many different ways you can support us, find out more at guidedogs.org.uk.

Did you know? Despite their hair or fur, dogs can still get sunburnt! ☀️🕶️ Your dog can get burned on exposed skin, such as their nose, tummy or lips. To help prevent this, monitor how long your dog spends in the sunshine, and ensure they have access to a cool, shady space. If you do notice your dog’s skin getting pink or red, move them indoors and apply a cold, damp towel to the affected area for 20 minutes. Learn more about keeping your dog safe in hot weather on our website - https://bit.ly/3CkDQ40 [Visual description: Image one shows a yellow Labrador guide dog in training sat on the grass. She is looking up at the camera and smiling with her tongue out as she sits in the sunshine. Image two shows three guide dogs in training all sat in a row in an outdoor pen (one golden retriever and two yellow Labradors). All three look up at the camera and smiling happily, the floor is wet and they are slightly damp from playing in a paddling pool.]

“If I didn’t have to worry about pavement parking, there'd be less anxiety in my journeys just getting to and from work, doing normal things, going to the shops. And I wouldn't be late for work, appointments, buses, or whatever I'm doing.” Mandy, guide dog owner 🚗 Cars blocking pavements are a problem for everyone, but are particularly dangerous for people with sight loss, wheelchair users and older. Please sign our open letter asking party leaders to tackle pavement parking 👉 https://bit.ly/3SFOkDZ [Visual description: Guide dog owner Mandy is kneeling next to her guide dog (black Labrador cross golden retriever wearing her Guide Dogs bright yellow flash and harness) Mandy is looking forward and smiling to camera.
