    Tech for tech’s sake. That type of thinking just doesn’t work. It will only waste your money and your time. Selecting what tech you use should be simple: it should better your business. In hotels, that means enhancing guest experiences, reducing pressure on staff, and optimising revenue while minimising costs. When you’re reviewing your hotel’s tech stack (and, just like changing your smoke detectors or changing your toothbrush at home, a business review should be a regular occurrence!), consider: • What solution will make my hotel more money?  • What can deliver me more – and happier – customers throughout the business?  • What will make our operations more efficient? When was the last time you reviewed your hotel’s technology, ensuring it is not only fit for purpose but integrates with all the other essential systems you use?

    What future trends are shaping boutique hotels? In advance of their conference in September, BLLA shared thoughts on key ways the industry is evolving and what consumers expect from hotel stays, including: • Eco-friendly practices move beyond what’s in the room. Hotels need to provide guests with authentic experiences which connect them to the hotel’s local area. This can be on-property or in partnership with local businesses. • Dare to be different. Art and design are great ways to personalise your property and create memorable moments for a guest. By using local artists and designers, hotels can further showcase your location’s culture. • Know your guests. Make business decisions – from décor to technology – with them in mind. Personalisation is more than a buzzword, but to connect with guests on an individual level, you need to understand them first. • Wellness is not as simple as ‘spa’. It incorporates a full spectrum of health and wellbeing – from yoga and meditation to diet and mindfulness. If you don’t have spa facilities, it’s a trend you can still tap into by utilising in-room amenities (such as a yoga mat) or hosting weekend workshops. • Be transparent, especially with pricing. Guests at all levels – from budget to luxury – want control over their spending, and the best way to help them do this is by being upfront and honest about costs such as resort or Wifi fees.     According to a report by SumUp and Hotel Owner, three in ten independent hoteliers expect their business to perform well, and 26% are “very confident” they will see significant growth over the coming year. Necessary costs such as rent, energy and stock remain the biggest factors influencing hotelier confidence, with 54% citing them as concerns, followed by cheap competition (42%) and the economy and inflation (35%).
