About us

Greene King is a leading pub and brewing company with a proud heritage. We started as a small brewing business in 1799, based in the Suffolk market- town of Bury St Edmunds and have been brewing award-winning ales ever since. We brew some of the best-known and best-loved beers in the UK, including Greene King IPA, Old Speckled Hen and Abbot Ale. Over the last 200 years we have continued to develop and expand significantly and have successfully acquired other brands and companies such as Old English Inns, Belhaven, Loch Fyne and most recently Spirit. Greene King now runs over 2,600 managed, tenanted, leased and franchised pubs, restaurants and hotels. You will find us in cities, towns and villages across England, Scotland and Wales. We operate three main business sectors: • Retail (Managed Pubs), including Hungry Horse, Farmhouse Inns, Chef & Brewer, Flaming Grill, Old English Inns, Belhaven and Local Pubs. • Pub Partners (Tenanted and Leased Pubs) • Brewing & Brands (Cask Ale & Premium Ale Brewing) We are focussed on delivering exceptional value, genuine service and consistent quality to all of our customers and this drives everything we do. Essentially, we want them to experience authentic hospitality and come away thinking that their time with us has been well spent.

Throughout South Asian Heritage month, Unity, our ethnic minorities employee-led inclusion group, and their allies, will be sharing and celebrating the rich culture, history and contributions of South Asian countries and their people and highlighting the unique experiences and contributions of our team members from diverse backgrounds. We want to make Greene King a place which is fully inclusive for all our team members, where all our people are embraced and valued for who they are.  In this video our team members share what this year’s South Asian Heritage Month’s theme “Free to be me” means to them and how they feel empowered to be their authentic selves at work.

We had such a great time at our first ever Punt & Dine! The weather stayed (mostly!) dry as we took to the River Cam in punts, followed by a picnic-inspired lunch at Jesus College Cambridge. Thanks to our guests’ incredible generosity on the day, we managed to raise over £12,000 to fund our work, as well as supporting Winter Comforts and the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, two amazing local charities. A special thanks goes to Rory Laffan for dreaming up and co-hosting the event. Our amazing day would not have been possible without our sponsors’ support: Bidwells, Boxed Events Cambridge, Britvic plc, Cambridge Wine Merchants, Fin Boys, Grain Culture, Greene King, Just Solutions, MEMO, Paddy & Scott's, Scotties, The Gog, The Linton Kitchen, The Manor Florist, Twice Baked Consulting, Vanderlyle & White Rabbit Projects

WOW what a weekend, England might not have brought it home but what a tremendous effort, a huge well done to the team. During the Euros, Greene King drinkers have been helping us reach our £1MILLION donation goal for grassroots sport and we’ve done it! Over the last few weeks, we have been donating 10p from every pint of Greene King beer sold* to grassroots sports clubs, we’ve been updating the totaliser every week, eagerly watching it get closer and closer to the million. Proud To Pitch In has been helping grassroots sports clubs secure much needed funding for almost 3 years, giving clubs the chance to apply for grants of up to £4,000. These grants have made a huge impact to clubs across the UK; from lawnmowers to team kits, from equipment to pitch hire, it’s been funded! A huge thanks to our Greene King drinkers for helping us reach this incredible goal! If you would like to learn more about the fund or know a club that could use some funding, please visit www.proudtopitchin.co.uk. #GreeneKingIPA #ProudToPitchIn #GrassrootsSport #EnglandFootball #EurosFinal

Many MP candidates of all parties shared their passion for pubs and brewing with us during the General Election campaign and we were delighted to welcome them into our pubs. It was fantastic to hear cross-party recognition of the important place pubs have in communities across the UK, as well as their contributions to social mobility and the UK economy. Our goal is to ensure pubs remain a thriving part of UK culture for generations to come and we welcomed the opportunities to share steps that a new Government can take to protect pubs, including with business rates reform and cutting beer duty.

Last week at our support centres in Burton and Bury St Edmunds, the Village Greene, our LGBTQ employee led inclusion group hosted a Pride event for employees to learn why allyship is important to the LGBTQ community.   Matt Morton, Manager at Thetford Town FC shared his experience and how allies helped him to come out and why there’s still work to be done in the football world.   We were also joined by Stephanie Fuller, Chief Executive Officer of Switchboard LGBT, to discuss allyship and its importance for continuing the charity's work.   Such an inspiring and thought provoking event 🌈💚 #DiversityMakesUs #Pride2024 #TheVillageGreene To donate to Switchboard, go to:  https://lnkd.in/eywhM3QE

To celebrate Greene King's sponsorship of the @Eden Project's Big Lunch, our pubs across the UK have been hosting their very own Big Lunches throughout the Month of Community this June, bringing their local communities together for food, friendship and fun!    From wellbeing sessions and crafting workshops to dog cafes with puppacinos for our four legged friends and pub games to try, our pubs have provided a welcoming space for people to make new connections with others from their community.   This is only the start and our Closer Communities programme, which focuses on putting communities at the heart of our pubs, will continue all year round to provide opportunities for people to come together and connect.
