About us

Greene King is a leading pub and brewing company with a proud heritage. We started as a small brewing business in 1799, based in the Suffolk market- town of Bury St Edmunds and have been brewing award-winning ales ever since. We brew some of the best-known and best-loved beers in the UK, including Greene King IPA, Old Speckled Hen and Abbot Ale. Over the last 200 years we have continued to develop and expand significantly and have successfully acquired other brands and companies such as Old English Inns, Belhaven, Loch Fyne and most recently Spirit. Greene King now runs over 2,600 managed, tenanted, leased and franchised pubs, restaurants and hotels. You will find us in cities, towns and villages across England, Scotland and Wales. We operate three main business sectors: • Retail (Managed Pubs), including Hungry Horse, Farmhouse Inns, Chef & Brewer, Flaming Grill, Old English Inns, Belhaven and Local Pubs. • Pub Partners (Tenanted and Leased Pubs) • Brewing & Brands (Cask Ale & Premium Ale Brewing) We are focussed on delivering exceptional value, genuine service and consistent quality to all of our customers and this drives everything we do. Essentially, we want them to experience authentic hospitality and come away thinking that their time with us has been well spent.

On today’s International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition, we reflect on its history, the suffering of those impacted by transatlantic slavery and how we as a business can ensure that racism and discrimination have no place within our company or broader society today.   If you would like to learn more about what this day stands for, to mark the 25th anniversary of this day of remembrance, the International Slavery Museum is hosting a Walk of Remembrance starting at 12pm through Liverpool City Centre, pausing at landmarks of historic significance. Additionally, the Royal Museum in Greenwich will be running a series of events, from musical performances to guided tours.

We're committed to championing social mobility, providing everybody, regardless of their background, the chance of a career within hospitality. And one of our social mobility programmes, Releasing Potential, has just reached a significant milestone, recruiting its 250th prison leaver.   Launched in May 2019, the programme supports prisoners to develop new hospitality skills while in prison, with the goal of offering them a job when they're released. We've also invested in kitchens at HMP Thameside and HMP Grampian to give prisoners skills and confidence preparing dishes from our menus, helping to set them up for a second chance when they leave custody. With more of our customers hitting the roads with electric vehicles, the demand for reliable and quicker charging points across the UK has increased. We're pleased to have recently unveiled our first super-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging point at Hobby Horse Farm in Syston, Leicestershire. This ultra-rapid hub is capable of charging eight vehicles simultaneously at speeds of up to 150kW, meaning that drivers can recharge their vehicle in as little as 30 minutes.   We now have over 1,200 EV charging bays located at our pubs and support centres across the country, with a further 300 bays to be installed by the end of this year, including more super-fast charging points in Greene King pub car parks as part of a partnership with evyve Charging Network.     Introducing EV charging facilities is part of Greene King's wider strategy, which includes improving operations to reduce environmental impact and helping our customers make more sustainable choices, such as being able to search for pubs with EV charging through our ap.  Click here to find out more 👉https://bit.ly/4fnegOp

We're over halfway into 2024 and our amazing team's passion and enthusiasm in their fundraising efforts for Macmillan Cancer Support shows no sign of slowing down! 🤩 We know we couldn't do this without the support and generosity of our customers. Every penny dropped in a bucket, 25p tap or menu donation makes a huge difference to the lives of those affected by cancer - this small change really does add up to make a BIG difference. 💚 We've created this video to say thank you to our customers and to show them the impact their donations make to the support Macmillan provide everyday to those living with cancer. 👇

Throughout South Asian Heritage month, Unity, our ethnic minorities employee-led inclusion group, and their allies, will be sharing and celebrating the rich culture, history and contributions of South Asian countries and their people and highlighting the unique experiences and contributions of our team members from diverse backgrounds. We want to make Greene King a place which is fully inclusive for all our team members, where all our people are embraced and valued for who they are.  In this video our team members share what this year’s South Asian Heritage Month’s theme “Free to be me” means to them and how they feel empowered to be their authentic selves at work.

We had such a great time at our first ever Punt & Dine! The weather stayed (mostly!) dry as we took to the River Cam in punts, followed by a picnic-inspired lunch at Jesus College Cambridge. Thanks to our guests’ incredible generosity on the day, we managed to raise over £12,000 to fund our work, as well as supporting Winter Comforts and the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, two amazing local charities. A special thanks goes to Rory Laffan for dreaming up and co-hosting the event. Our amazing day would not have been possible without our sponsors’ support: Bidwells, Boxed Events Cambridge, Britvic plc, Cambridge Wine Merchants, Fin Boys, Grain Culture, Greene King, Just Solutions, MEMO, Paddy & Scott's, Scotties, The Gog, The Linton Kitchen, The Manor Florist, Twice Baked Consulting, Vanderlyle & White Rabbit Projects
