Last day at ESOF 😊 Professors Marcin Lutynski & Lukasz Bartela from the Silesian University of Technology, Adam Smolinski from the Polish #CentralMiningInstitute, Sebastian Waniczek from ENERGOPROJEKT-KATOWICE SA and Lukáš Adámek from Gravitricity Ltd debate possibilities to refurbish existing #mining #infrastructure and introduce potential #post_mining uses for the future of #miningRegions. #UpperSilesia offers many opportunities for long-term storage of #compressedGases as well as #CarbonCapture and #CO2storage (#CCUS) in underground mines. Introducing #CircularEconomy in the extractive industry is a pan-European challenge in mining regions in #Poland, #Germany, #France, #CzechRepublic and #Britain. They touch on technical challenges as well as #legal, #regulatory and #political problems. An intense dialogue between mine owning companies, unions as well as governmental institutions on national and European levels will be crucial. They also point out many unexpected solutions such as #GravityStorage, systems that can often be installed easily in the existing vertical shafts. In combination with #PumpHydro such hybrid systems offer a lot of potential. #energy #stableGrids #hydrogen #greenHydrogen #GreenDeal #geosciences #Europe Coalesce Solutions, LLC

Gravitricity Ltd's Project Advisor Lukáš Adámek was privileged to have the opportunity to speak at the EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF 2024) in Katowice, Poland last week. He joined the "Is the post-mining infrastructure a viable option for energy storage?" panel and spoke about the impact of decarbonisation, the need for a future diverse and resilient energy system, social aspects of the upcoming just transition and the potential hybrid combination of complementary technologies. Lukas thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the discussions and we'd like to say a huge thanks again to Marcin Lutynski (Silesian University of Technology) for the invitation. #energystorage #gravitystorage #justtransition #energy #europe #mining #postmining #miningregions

We're delighted to announce we've signed a memorandum of understanding with Baker Hughes, a leading energy technology company. The agreement underscores our intention to work jointly to explore the potential commercialisation of Gravitricity Ltd’s H2FlexiStore and GraviStore technologies and accelerate the development of our infrastructure-scale, distributed energy storage projects. “Baker Hughes brings tremendous strength to our technology development programme," says Gravitricity Ltd's Executive Chairman Martin Wright. "They bring the capability to provide technical expertise, commercial development, equipment and services, enabling the two companies to identify cost-effective and timely solutions to enhance, commercialise, construct and operate Gravitricity’s underground energy storage solutions." Here Martin Wright is pictured alongside Tom Harper, Vice President, Commercial Development at Baker Hughes, on a recent visit to the company’s London office. A couple of weeks ago I travelled to Sweden for the Swerim Hydrogen Week 2024 in Luleå. The first day was a course on hydrogen embrittlement, a very important topic for the work in developing Gravitricity Ltd's H2FlexiStore hydrogen storage technology. This was a great opportunity to learn more about the complex mechanisms of embrittlement and the latest studies and testing being performed. The second day was a hydrogen seminar that explored recent developments in the hydrogen industry in Sweden with some great case studies from the steel industry. It is very clear that hydrogen has an important role to play in decarbonising the hard-to-abate sector through direct reduction and as a fuel for heating processes. I rounded off the week with some productive meetings in Stockholm, a great opportunity to meet people face-to-face. A thank you to all those at Swerim AB for a really informative week, I look forward to next years event! It would have been rude not to make the most of my trip to Sweden, so I took the opportunity to explore the Stockholm Archipelago. I managed to eat my fair share of cinnamon rolls, drank enough coffee to last me a couple of months, and had a great time exploring the Swedish outdoors. I look forward to going back! #EnergyStorage #HydrogenStorage #EnergyTransition #Hydrogen #Energy

🚨The European Elections are happening RIGHT NOW until this Sunday, and a carbon-free Europe is on the ballot! With energy storage, minimise Europe’s carbon footprint by: 🟢Reducing grid congestion, allowing for further renewables deployment 🟢Replacing polluting flexibility technologies, i.e. gas peakers during demand peaks 🟢Maximising the use of EU-produced renewable energy by ensuring their availability throughout the year ❗Renewables and energy storage go hand in hand in a modern, carbon-free Europe. Climate action opens the door for new business opportunities and protects generations of Europeans. 👉Read the full manifesto on our website: https://lnkd.in/ezrgE2cB #EnergiseEurope #ClimateAction #ClimateCrisis #EnergyStorage #Energy #EuropeanElections #EUElections #Manifesto #Decarbonization #RenewableEnergy #Vote

UK Power & Flexibility: the REA wants a fully decarbonised, secure, and affordable electricity system by 2032. Earlier this week, in our First 100 Days action plan for the next UK Government, we listed a series of immediate actions: 1. complete the establishment of the National Energy System Operator, to provide independent advice on delivering an #energysystem that is fit for the future. 2. turbocharge work to address #gridcapacity constraints. 3. finalise options within the Review of Electricity Market Arrangements. 4, establish a rolling timetable & budget for Contract for Difference allocation rounds to secure new #investment in large scale #renewables. 5. provide bespoke capital allowances to incentivise #renewableinvestment. 6. implement a “cap-and-floor" mechanism for #longdurationenergystorage (#LDES) 7. deliver pathways for the deployment of #bioenergy #carboncapture and storage (#BECCS) to deliver critical negative emissions by 2030. 8. reform #planning guidance by 2025 to prioritise renewable deployment. https://lnkd.in/eeVrCtcV #REAction #Generalelection #Energypolicy #First100days #cleantech #NetZero #power #flexibility
