🎬 That's a wrap 🎬 As Climate Week NYC draws to a close, our team had the privilege of attending the premiere of Legion 44 —the first-ever feature-length documentary dedicated to carbon removal. This pivotal film brought to the big screen the inspiring technologies and communities working to shape a net zero future. Our key takeaways: 1️⃣ Legion 44 makes the often abstract world of carbon removal tangible, showcasing not only the groundbreaking technologies but also the real people behind them. 2️⃣ The film unequivocally communicates the necessity of carbon removal to reach net zero and address historical emissions. With current CO2 levels around 420ppm, we’re already witnessing extreme weather events and rising sea levels. This underscores the urgent need to reduce atmospheric carbon and restore balance to the planet. 3️⃣ While the complexities of carbon removal can sometimes make it feel like a long road ahead, this film reminded us of the bigger picture—that we not only have to do this, but we can. The power of human ingenuity will prevail. It’s been an incredible week at Climate Week NYC, full of inspiring connections and forward-thinking ideas. #NYClimateWeek #CarbonRemoval #NetZero

It’s been another busy day at Climate Week NYC, where the need to accelerate carbon removal and build a resilient path to net zero took center stage. We kicked off the day at Isometric's breakfast, where corporate and government leaders explored how to drive the next wave of demand for carbon removal. With supply rapidly growing, the focus is on building stronger partnerships between the public and private sectors to unlock large-scale, long-term demand. At the Nasdaq Climate Week Conference, a panel of CDR experts emphasized that setting targets is just the beginning—it’s delivering on those commitments that requires significant investment and strategic planning. They made it clear that carbon removal needs to be seen as a cost of doing business, not an optional add-on. Finally at The Nest Climate Campus, during the WWF panel, sustainability leaders from H&M, McDonald's, and Procter & Gamble discussed the role of market-based solutions in achieving science-based targets. A key takeaway was the growing gap between fast-moving corporate sustainability efforts and slower-moving regulatory frameworks. Many companies want to move quickly but struggle to maintain momentum within the current regulatory landscape. As Climate Week NYC progresses, the urgency is clearer than ever. It’s time for carbon removal. #NYClimateWeek #CarbonRemoval #NetZero

🌍 Insights from Climate Week NYC: Puro.earth CDR Summit 🔔 Yesterday, our team attended the Puro.earth CDR Summit, where our CTO and Co-Founder, Aaron Randall, spoke on the panel “Reflections from Sales Channels & Marketplaces.” The discussion focused on the current state of the carbon removal market, particularly the ongoing challenge of limited demand. Aaron highlighted two key reasons: 1. Negative press surrounding avoidance credits, which has unintentionally impacted carbon removal. 2. The lack of robust regulation beyond existing corporate guidance, such as SBTi. When asked what could move the market forward, Aaron emphasized the need for clear and decisive corporate guidance to drive demand for carbon removal. It’s clear from the discussions that these challenges are shared across the sector. The consensus is that while demand for carbon removal isn’t where it needs to be, stronger guidance and standardization could unlock significant growth. Whilst at the summit, our team enjoyed catching-up with our partners and meeting new people from across the CDR ecosystem. A big thank you to the team at Puro.earth for hosting such an important event and providing a platform for these crucial discussions. 👏 We’re looking forward to attending more events today as part of Climate Week and continuing the conversation about scaling carbon removal. #NYClimateWeek #CarbonRemoval #PuroEarth #CDRSummit #ClimateAction

Welcoming PyroCCS - Biochar CDR Solutions to our carbon removal marketplace 🚀 PyroNam, a subsidiary of PyroCCS, produces high-quality biochar while driving environmental and economic progress in Namibia. 🌍 The project is revitalizing the Namibian savannah by converting encroaching bush wood, including Acacia Mellifera, into biochar. This biomass would otherwise contribute to carbon emissions through burning or decomposition. 💼 Located in the remote Otjiwarongo constituency, the project creates essential jobs in areas with high levels of youth unemployment. Though the project faces challenges with achieving community engagement due to its remote location, it still significantly contributes to local economic stability. 🏭 PyroNam’s facility leverages a new, robust pyrolysis machine, designed in-house by industry expert Dr. Christopher Steins (formerly Head of R&D at PYREG). This technology is incredibly promising for both high efficiency and scalability. 📈 This facility has the capacity to produce 1000 tonnes of biochar annually. PyroNam plans to expand to 400 facilities across Namibia by 2030. Overall, this project scored highly across our vetting protocol, particularly in delivery risk, and represents an existing opportunity for corporate buyers looking to have climate impact today. Welcome to the marketplace, PyroCCS! 🌱 #Biochar #ClimateAction #Namibia #CarbonRemoval

Carbon removal is no longer on the sidelines. Here are our key takeaways from London this week: 🎤 At Sustainability LIVE, Aaron Randall spoke on "The Future of Net Zero," emphasizing that carbon removal must be central to any credible net-zero strategy. Our team enjoyed connecting with forward-thinking companies that are building their CDR strategies. 🗣️ Meanwhile, at Carbon Unbound, Mai Bui joined the "Biochar & Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW)" panel alongside Venna Lepel and Alix Bolle, delving into the climate science behind these promising methods. While scaling CDR remains a significant challenge, it is positive to see the CDR community coming together to push the boundaries of climate science, policy, and technology. We’re excited to see what NYC Climate Week will bring as we continue building momentum around the CDR conversation. 🌍 Reach out if you’ll be there too and would like to connect. #CDR #ClimateTech #NetZero #SustainabilityLive #CarbonUnbound

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending a workshop in Wales on biomass crops and the uncertainties in biomass-based CDR—combining my two passions: the great outdoors and digging into scientific detail! The GGR Demonstrators Roadshow in Aberystwyth, organised by the Greenhouse Gas Removal Future Leaders Network, gave us some fantastic insights. We explored the Perennial Biomass Crops for GGR (PBC4GGR ) programme at IBERS and visited peatland monitoring sites through the GGR-Peat project. This experience brought to life that: 🌍 Measuring GHGs in real-world conditions is tough—especially when you’re trudging through a peatland! The MRV challenges highlighted just how complex this work is. 🔬 Scientific uncertainty remains high across multiple CDR pathways, but we can’t afford to wait for perfect answers. As researchers, it’s tempting to conclude with "more research is needed" (and it is!), but the reality is we don't have the luxury of time. As a sector, we must keep progressing—building, testing, and refining as we adapt to new learnings from both academia and practice. This is how we'll ensure carbon removal solutions contribute meaningfully to net zero. At Supercritical, we're committed to transparency while actively reducing uncertainty in this evolving landscape. The road to net zero isn’t simple, but staying agile and open to new learnings is how we’ll get there. #CarbonRemoval #NetZero #CDR #ClimateScience
