In the realm of cybersecurity, a Friday phone call is seldom good news. This was the case on July 19th, when GMV's phones buzzed non-stop. Our CERT, GMV’s 24/7 security monitoring and incident response team, reported unusual data activity, primarily affecting our clients' systems and fortunately, none of our equipment and services. Investigation revealed a global issue with CrowdStrike’s EDR software, causing Windows devices to crash. By 07:30 CET, CrowdStrike identified a faulty update, providing a workaround. GMV’s CERT swiftly applied solutions, mitigating impacts on our clients. This incident underscores the importance of robust security monitoring and response capabilities. A well-prepared CERT is crucial for early detection and rapid action, ensuring business continuity even amid widespread technical issues.
