⭕ NEW: The first-ever Global Renewables Summit to drive action on global #3xRenewables target has been announced by a powerful cross-sectoral coalition In September, the Global Renewables Alliance (GRA) and Bloomberg Philanthropies, in partnership with the Government of Barbados and Kenya, the European Commission, the COP28 UAE and COP29 Azerbaijan Presidencies, the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), and the Center on Global Energy Policy, will host the Global Renewables Summit in New York #GRS24. GRS24 will be the first-ever public-private summit where leaders from industry, government, intergovernmental organisations, NGOs, philanthropy, and COP presidencies convene to discuss the progress, opportunities, and challenges of tripling renewable energy globally by 2030, aiming to accelerate the clean energy transition. Held in New York during the 79th UN General Assembly High-Level Week in September, GRS24 is set to be the firing gun of a race to the top on the global achievement of the #3xRenewables target. “At COP28, a coalition of private sector, civil society, governments, and multilateral organisations collectively secured a global target to triple renewables by 2030. Now, it’s time for action,” said Bruce Douglas, CEO of GRA. “Renewable technologies are mature and competitive, and the industries are ready to deliver, but the right policy frameworks and implementation are now urgently required. We are honoured to co-host this unique public-private summit with some of the leading organisations in the world to ignite a worldwide race to the top, accelerating action on finance, permits, grids, and supply chains to unleash the full potential of renewables.” ▶️ For updates, follow the Global Renewables Alliance Find out more about #GRS24: https://lnkd.in/dg8QJf-R 🌎 The Global Renewable Summit 2024 Organisers Global Renewables Alliance and Bloomberg Philanthropies Partners The Government of Barbados, Kenya, the European Commission, COP28 UAE, COP29 Azerbaijan, the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), and the Center on Global Energy Policy, GRA Founding Members Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), Global Solar Council (GSC), International Hydropower Association (IHA), Long Duration Energy Storage Council (LDES Council), International Geothermal Association and Green Hydrogen Organisation - GH2.

💡 "This is the beginning of the end of the fossil fuel era," declared UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Simon Stiell at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai last December. For the first time, the global community has committed to transitioning away from fossil energy to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C, sending a clear signal to investors. ⚡With a record deployment of 473 gigawatts of renewable energy sources in 2023, we are on the right path, but we need to accelerate—especially in expanding critical infrastructure such as grids, storage systems, and e-mobility. Sustainable solutions across all grid levels and sectors are essential for a 24/7 renewable energy supply. How can the energy industry achieve climate neutrality as quickly as possible? 📣 EU action needed: It’s time to recognise EV battery manufacturers' PPAs GRA, alongside corporate renewable energy buyers, producers, and energy transition leaders, is calling for urgent action from the EU. The Draft Delegated Act on the EV battery carbon footprint methodology risks hampering Europe's growing power purchase agreement (PPA) market – a key decarbonisation tool for corporations. We call the European Commission and Member States to: ✅ Recognise PPAs in the EV battery carbon footprint methodology. ✅ Continue incentivising EV battery supply chain to decarbonise their electricity supply by combining PPAs and Guarantees of Origin (GOs). ✅ Don’t create parallel carbon accounting methodologies and risk double-counting. Read the full joint letter and join us in urging the EU to act ⏭️ https://lnkd.in/egR6RWNn RE-Source Platform GRA is the uniting renewable industry voice on the global arena. 📢 Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners is taking action to achieve the global #3xRenewabels target CIP is the world’s largest dedicated fund manager within greenfield renewable energy investments and a global leader in #OffshoreWind. Managing eleven funds, CIP has raised over €25 billion for investments in energy and associated infrastructure from more than 150 international institutional investors. All of CIP’s funds seek to invest in renewable energy infrastructure projects which can assist in transitioning the global economy into a net-zero emissions scenario by 2050. Its market-leading portfolio of green energy projects totals around 120 GW, and its aim is set on raising €100 billion by 2030 in green energy investments. Now, CIP has joined GRA’s #Time4Action campaign to accelerate action on the global target to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030. “At COP28 in Dubai last year, world governments agreed on a tripling renewables target. Today, we send a strong message to policymakers: it is crucial to prioritise the global delivery of renewable energy, balancing long-term goals with short-term action. CIP welcomes the policy recommendations of the Global Renewables Alliance. It is time for Action,” said Michael Hannibal, partner at Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. 📢 Fortescue accelerates action on the global #3xRenewabels target Fortescue, one of the sector’s leading players, has earned its reputation from success in establishing the building blocks for the global renewable energy value chain, developing breakthrough green technology for trucks, trains, planes, ships, electrolysers, solar, cables, wind, batteries, hydrogen fuel cells, and the digital industry, and having pledged $1.1bn in green energy projects last year. Now, the company has joined GRA’s #Time4Action campaign to drive progress on the global target to triple renewable energy by 2030. “Climate targets set in the next 12 months will be the last which can meaningfully alter the damaging emissions trajectory the world is on. By Baku, we want to see companies bringing updated transition plans that are properly aligned to 1.5 degrees, and we need to see countries significantly enhancing their ambition to meet the temperature goals of the #ParisAgreement,” said Mark Hutchinson, Energy CEO at Fortescue. “It is for that reason that Fortescue is resolutely committed to the Global Renewables Alliance and its goals in the lead up to COP29. We look forward to a year of practical action and to demonstrating how our zero-emissions solutions can promote a secure and prosperous world.” Learn more about #3xRenewables and GRA’s #Time4Action campaign: https://lnkd.in/dbvUU6BC GRA members Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) Ben Backwell | Global Solar Council (GSC) Sonia Dunlop | International Hydropower Association (IHA) Eddie Rich | Long Duration Energy Storage Council (LDES Council) Julia Souder | Green Hydrogen Organisation - GH2 Jonas Moberg | International Geothermal Association Marit Brommer | Bruce Douglas

📄Have you seen the latest guide on pumped storage hydropower? Today, GRA’s member International Hydropower Association (IHA), released the guide "Enabling new pumped storage hydropower: A guidance note for key decision makers to de-risk investments in pumped storage hydropower investments." With the world transitioning towards a low-carbon future, pumped storage hydropower (#PSH) is emerging as a critical technology for grid stability and renewable energy integration. PSH leads in long-duration energy storage globally, with hundreds of projects supporting energy systems and creating clean energy jobs. It is the most abundant, proven, and efficient form of energy storage and can support the global transition towards a sustainable energy future. “The failure to focus on long duration energy storage is the ignored crisis within the energy crisis. PSH can resolve this challenge on a huge scale and provide grid stability without fossil fuels. Policymakers must act now to meet net zero goals by 2050," said Malcolm Turnbull, president of IHA and former Prime Minister of Australia.
