GLL makes community services and spaces better for everyone.
About us
GLL is an independent charitable, social enterprise making community spaces and services better for everyone. We operate over 230 leisure centres and swimming pools, 50 libraries and world-class sporting venues such as Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, Lee Valley VeloPark and Copper Box Arena at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park – all run under the ‘Better’ brand. We also run numerous children's centres, recreation grounds, spas, ice rinks and events spaces making us the UK’s largest leisure provider. We partner with many local authorities to make leisure, fitness and library services accessible and affordable to the whole community. We’re as committed to investing in our people as we are in the communities in which we work and offer real career and personal development opportunities at whatever level you join us. Everyone from our leisure centre staff to our business support and leadership roles have access to dedicated career paths and accredited training. We’re passionate about our social ethos – which run through everything we do. We aim to enable people to achieve more, be that through the work we do with charities such as The Prince’s Trust to our GLL Sports Foundation which supports and funds the athletes and coaches of tomorrow.

We're delighted that we've achieved nine finalists across four categories at this year's ukactive awards and could not be more proud of Better's programmes and people who are playing their part in strengthening the wider UK leisure sector. Getting more people active in our clubs and centres up and down the country is a huge endorsement of the great health partnership work with our local authority clients across the UK. We celebrated the start of summer last weekend, welcoming 100k visitors to 240 of our leisure centres and 120 libraries, in probably the largest activity of its kind to take place in the UK. Our national Open Weekend included scores of free activities suitable for all ages, ranging from racquet sports and football to exercise classes, mindfulness and yoga. Most popular were water-based activities, with an incredible 40,000 swimmers taking up the opportunity to have a free dip in one of our pools over the two days. More than 5,000 families with young children also enjoyed time together in our soft play areas and play parks.

As our GLL teachers and managers get out in to local primary schools promoting #DrowningPreventionWeek and sharing the Water Safety Code, myself and Nicola Charnock have been in Belfast seeing water safety themed swimming lessons and sharing a hard hitting #DPW message from Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK with our General Managers. Not only do we take our responsibility for Drowning Prevention in our pools incredibly seriously, we also want to get the message out in to our local communities. Can you share a drowning Prevention message this week and help educate those around you and potentially prevent a tragedy? 🎥🎥⬇️⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eh4fNJrv 🎥🎥⬆️⬆️
