𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐞𝐥𝐳𝐥𝐞 𝐅𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝟑𝟎𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 Today marks the 30th anniversary of the Stoelzle Spirits glass packaging site in Knottingley, UK. We spoke to Stoelzle Glass Group CEO Dr August Grupp on this milestone. He said: “Our employees are at the core of our success. Their dedication and expertise have been instrumental in shaping Stoelzle Flaconnage into the company it is today.” In recent years, the site has been developed into a #modern facility focused on producing high-quality #glass #packaging for the prestige #spirits sector. Looking towards the #future, Dr Grupp said the site would invest in more #sustainable melting #technologies. “Like many industries, the glass industry has a challenging but interesting journey ahead. Mastering these and continuing to develop our products and processes will be our main task for the foreseeable future. This will involve, for example, investments in more climate-friendly melting technologies, restructuring of our site, as well as changes in our corporate management.” See the link in the comments below for the full interview, which will also be available in our November issue. #glassindustry #anniversary #sustainability #investments #technology

O-I has started to produce glass from its Bowling Green, #Kentucky, #usa greenfield manufacturing facility. Glass began to flow at the facility in August, with full commissioning on track to be completed by the end of October. The facility is ramping up its use of O-I's second generation MAGMA #glass production #technology. Gordon Hardie, CEO of the world’s largest container glass #manufacturing company, said MAGMA had the potential to rewrite the company’s #business model. He said: “MAGMA's core technology works, the first generation melter development is complete. "We are ramping up production at our generation two greenfield Bowling Green site which is designed to test all it's operating qualities at full #industrial scale. “MAGMA’s increased flexibility has the potential to rewrite our business model but it must also deliver meaningful #economic profit in a reasonable time frame. “It is a challenge I have set to the MAGMA and commercial teams." He added the company intends to roll out its Ultra technology, which can reduce the weight of glass containers by up to 30% and can improve convenience, reduce #logistic costs and #greenhouse #gas #emissions. He later told analysts that the core of Magma technology is a furnace that can be switched on and off, which gives the company flexibility and allows it to deliver variability at a reasonable cost. “A traditional furnace needs long runs to be cost efficient but this gives us the capability to do premium, super premium, and ultra #premium on short runs and still make an economic profit.” #investment #sustainable #climateaction #solutions #environment

Gallo Glass has been awarded a $5 million #California state contribution for the construction of a hybrid #glass furnace. The hybrid furnace will enable Gallo Glass Company to reduce the use of natural #gas fuel, increase energy-efficiency, and reduce #greenhousegas (GHG) and carbon emissions. The company will be supplied with Clean Melter technology from German engineering company Nikolaus Sorg GmbH & Co. KG. Gallo's Modesto plant is the largest glass container #production facility in the #USA and produces approximately 2.5 million #wine and spirits bottles a day from its five furnaces. The Modesto, California based glass manufacturer secured the funding from the California Energy Commission (CEC) through the state’s Industrial Decarbonization and Improvements to Grid Operations Program (INDIGO) for cost share funding, that will leverage federal funding from the US Department of Energy of $75 million. Gallo Glass will provide match funding of $70 million to install, operate and demonstrate the new hybrid glass furnace technology to support the decarbonisation of the US glass #industry. According to CEC documents, the goal of the Gallo project is to increase electrification with new electric glass forming and glass melting equipment to replace the current process that relies on natural gas. This will shift the source energy from the current 90% natural gas and 10% electricity to up to 80% electricity and 20% natural gas. The new production line is expected to be in operation by 2028. The documents list @Lija Corp as a subcontractor for the project. The CEC documents also outline a plan by Gallo to expand and enhance its Community Benefits Programmes. It outlines a ‘novel community glass recycling programme to holistically address environmental benefits throughout the glass #manufacturing supply chain and expand upon existing workforce development and apprenticeship programmes to train a projected 102 new employees.’ Training will also be offered to Gallo Glass' existing 741 employees. #sustainable #energy #efficiency #investment #decarbonisation #climateaction
