We are pleased to announce that Gilbert-Ash has been shortlisted in the ‘Delivering Social Value’ category at this year’s Building Awards.   The shortlisting recognises the team’s work with the community around the hub by Premier Inn, Clerkenwell project, particularly the work with the Michael Palin Centre (MPC) for Stammering.   We were blown away with the video Sir Michael Palin shared thanking Gilbert-Ash for our work with the centre - he beautifully summed it up: "What a gift the relationship between Gilbert-Ash and the MPC has been. You can be sure everything you have done, and continue to do, will transform the lives of children who stammer."   From transforming a multi-storey car park into a stunning new 180-bedroom hub by Premier Inn and six-storey office building, to enhancing the lives of local residents and stakeholders, our team's commitment to the community went beyond construction:   - Monthly meetings and direct engagement with residents - Assisting with maintenance and gardening for elderly/less-mobile neighbours - Renovated the MPC’s facilities, including gardens, pathways, and the building’s façade - Created a welcoming environment with new plants, bird boxes, and solar lights - Fostered a supportive community, collaborating with hotel operators to provide therapy session spaces and preferential room rates for families   We look forward to the awards in November at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, and continuing our mission to make a meaningful difference to our projects, people and place.   #GA #AsOne #BuildingAwards2024 #SocialValue #CommunityEngagement Building Magazine, Michael Palin Centre for Stammering

Gilbert-Ash were delighted to attend the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity event recently in Dublin.   Lighthouse is a charity that focuses on the mental health of all who work in the construction industry. Each year they host a charity event to raise money for the services they offer including wellbeing seminars, access to therapy and support groups when people have been affected by suicide and mental health issues.   The event hosted a brilliant charity auction and had a great panel of guest speakers including Carole Anne Clarke (Managing Director Europe I am Here and Ex Captain of Irish Rugby), Oisin McConville (Gaelic Football Manager and Former Player, Addiction Counsellor), Eric Donovan (Former European Boxing Champion), Sarah Ennis (Equestrian Eventer and Olympic Athlete), Bernard Brogan (Dublin GAA legend and seven-time All Ireland winner), Sharlene Mawdsley (400 metres international runner), Hamish Adams (CEO Athletics Ireland) and Michael McKillop (Ireland's 4 x Paralympic Champion and World Record Holder).   As committee members, we are also looking forward to the Lighthouse Charity Northern Ireland lunch in October, at the iconic Titanic Belfast.   #LighthouseCharity #GA #AsOne #GAIreland

Gilbert-Ash were delighted to host Bywater and Sumitomo Forestry at the topping out ceremony of our Old Paradise Street project.   OPS is the London borough of Lambeth’s largest office building with a predominantly Glulam column and beam and Cross-Laminated Timber floor structural frame.   By integrating sustainable timber, the carbon footprint of the building is reduced, and the connection details have been developed with disassembly in mind for a whole life strategy.   This low carbon project seeks to marry best in class office with high ESG targets to provide functional space with the occupier’s comfort in mind.   #Buildingthefuture #Lowcarbon #Glulam #CLT #SustainableConstruction

Ladies and gentlemen, may we have your attention, please? As this is a Performing Arts Centre, we invite you to take a look at this beautifully crafted and dramatic film. We are ever so grateful to the very talented Jim Stephenson for capturing the building and its users, the pupils. Coincidentally, he is even from Brighton, which was a stroke of luck for us. Music is by violinist Dorothy, one of the very talented pupils of Brighton College. Encore, encore! #architecture #performingarts #brightoncollege #krft #nicholasharearchitects
