𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀. 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀, 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀. Andrew Dean was a participant in our Restart Scheme and after starting his own gardening and landscaping business he enrolled on our free Multiply programme as he wanted to develop his numeracy skills and boost his confidence with numbers to support his small business. Sharon Marie Brown, Get Set UK Multiply trainer, tailored the sessions to match Andrew's pace, ensuring he understood each concept before moving to the next module. Recognising Andrew’s ability, she introduced more challenging activities at his request, pushing his skills to the next level. Andrew’s dedication and Sharon’s adaptive teaching approach helped Andrew to complete the Multiply Improve Numeracy Skills course which then led him to our Multiply Budget & Income course. Not only has Andrew enhanced his numeracy skills he has also regained his confidence with numbers and commented, “Sharon was an excellent teacher. 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝘀 𝗵𝗶𝗺 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿. Steven Kerr, aged 35, joined the Restart Scheme following a referral from his local Job Centre. After being made redundant from his previous retail role, he had been seeking employment for over a year. Facing numerous challenges in his job search combined with gaps in his employment history, Steven had lost his confidence and motivation. With personalised support from his Employment Advisor, Justin Oduro, including creating a new CV, interview prep workshops and access to job placements through Get Set UK’s partner employers, Steven secured a new role as Assistant Manager at Octavia. Looking ahead, Steven now aims to develop his leadership skills within Octavia and explore opportunities for career development. He plans to continue his professional development with the training and networking opportunities provided through the Restart Scheme. Georgie Shields, Manager of Branching Out, attended our Mental Health First Aid training course offered free as part of our Get Set for Work programme. Georgie wanted to demonstrate Branching Out’s commitment to supporting the mental wellbeing of their employees and creating a positive workplace culture. Working together, Amy McManus, Get Set for Work Employer Consultant, and Georgie began registering Branching Out as a Disability Confident Employer. After completing an Organisation Needs Assessment, Georgie and her team took a great step towards addressing Branching Out’s strengths and areas for development. This allowed Georgie to tailor the workplace to provide better support for individuals with learning disabilities or difficulties and demonstrates its ongoing commitment to providing equal opportunities and support for all employees, regardless of disability. 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀. 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗶 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. Asifa Shakoori is a refugee from Afghanistan and had been in the UK for just over a month when was referred to the Restart Scheme in our Crawley office where she was enrolled on our free Multiply numeracy programme to boost her maths skills and confidence. Inspired by the programme, she encouraged her siblings, Hanifa and Mohammad, to also join. The Multiply programme covers basic numeracy skills and helps people to prepare for work by understanding the UK tax system, better-off calculations, bank accounts and financial scams. As English wasn’t their first language, Edgar Muzvidzwa and Sharon Brown, their Multiply course tutors adapted the course to ensure they understood and followed the sessions which also helped to develop their confidence. The 3 siblings all successfully completed the course and requested materials they could retain and use for reference as they move on with their new life in the UK. Sharon Brown, Multiply tutor commented, “It was a real pleasure to teach this family of siblings. I hope their future dreams and goals are fulfilled”.
