Great to catch up with former colleague, and now Host of Business Reporter #SupplyChainTalk, Alastair Charatan! What a fantastic inaugural Supply Chain Risk & Resilience Summit it was in #London today. Both Alastair and Ana-Maria Velica 🍏 chaired the day with great insight, coordination and good-humour throughout 👏🏼 Two new terms / thoughts I learnt today: 1️⃣ Anti-fragile … looking at the opportunity associated with risks. Are there ways to benefit from a risk becoming reality? 2️⃣ ‘Stay Interviews’ … a proactive reverse of ‘exit interviews’. What’s making your people stay in the business? Building on that last point, I was also fortunate enough to join a roundtable discussion with Melanie Salter discussing the topic ‘motivating and retaining supply chain talent’. Given it is Generation Logistics Week, it was only right to shamelessly plug and highlight the role we all have to play in attracting talent in to the sector. Talent in Supply Chain & Logistics isn’t a risk … it’s a burning issue. The skills required might be changing however our sector, and the global economy, will always rely on people and talent to run successful businesses and their supply chains. That’s one of the reasons I’m so passionate about the fantastic work the Generation Logistics Ambassador Network do to attract talent to the sector. Inspiring our future talent in Logistics! Had a fantastic afternoon at Ponteland Community High School for Generation Logistics Week 2024 yesterday. Jonny Greenshields coordinated engaging logistics-related activities for over 25 students, showcasing the diverse roles in the sector and pathways into logistics. The students even got to experience sitting in a truck and honking the horn! 🚚 A big thank you to Fergusons Transport for the invaluable support - the excitement among the students was truly inspiring. On Tuesday I got the absolute pleasure to be able to attend Oldham Sixth Form to discuss my career journey to date and what a career in logistics and the chemical industry as a Generation Logistics and Generation STEAM ambassador. This was a great event and a big thank you to Dr Steve Kelly and Colette England for organising and Generation Logistics for the invite! It was amazing to see how the kids engaged and come up with some great ideas as well as many hands going up as to now considering a career in our industry!
