Seattle area investing $10B in wastewater infrastructure: Washington’s King Country plans to invest $10 billion in wastewater treatment and other measures in coming decade to reduce pollution in waterways and prepare for storms, which are likely to become more frequent and intense due to climate change. The Wastewater Treatment Division’s plans boosted in late March when EPA announced $194 million loan to support critical wastewater infrastructure updates. The first instalment is nearly $500 million low-interest loan package which aims to make the system more reliable and protect Puget Sound. New funding will help to reduce raw sewage pumps and provide seismic upgrades for Seattle’s West Point Treatment Plant. The facility treats millions of gallons of wastewater each day and receives stormwater and sewage from Seattle, Shoreline, North Lake Washington, northern areas of King County and southern parts of Snohomish County. Turner reboots construction on Amazon office tower: Work is set to continue on top 22 floors of the 1-million-square-foot building in Bellevue, Washington, where the e-commerce giant paused efforts in July 2022. After two-years, New York City-based Turner Construction will resume work on 555 Tower, a 42-story Amazon office tower in Bellevue, Washington. Amazon paused construction on five towers in the Bellevue area in July 2022, including 555 Tower, at the same time pulling back their warehouse development pipeline. In 2024, almost two years later, the tech giant is betting on the office market, despite overall instability in the sector. Once completed later in the year, 555 Tower will house more than 4,500 employees in total, according to Amazon. #turner #amazon #commercialconstruction

Construction set for Louisiana’s $362M Jimmie Davis Bridge: Construction is set to begin in May on the Jimmie Davis Bridge over Red River between Bossier and Caddo parishes. The $361.7 million project’s purpose is to improve traffic flow and congestion along state Route 511. Louisiana DOT tapped Baton Rouge-based James Construction Group as the general contractor for the design-build project. The project is set to open to traffic by early 2027, with a full completion date in 2028. The work includes a four-lane span built north of the existing two-lane structure. The roadway on each side of the new bridge will widen to accommodate the four lanes of traffic and three new median openings for U-turns.
