🌸🌿 Exciting news! 🌿🌸 We're thrilled to announce that our Bishop Compton collection has received National Plant Collection status from Plant Heritage! Come and explore the stunning Compton border outside the walled garden and discover 89 species that were first grown here at the Palace in the late 17th century, some for the first time in England. Be sure to visit the museum for the chance to see original plant specimens on display in our museum until June 2025. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this this possible. As part of our going green project, our garden team and volunteers have been participating in all sorts of training. The latest training was all about bee identification and pollinator surveys and we couldn't of asked for a better day! Learn more about the Palace's going green project: https://lnkd.in/eJHVhb_r
This week is Bees Needs Week so it was very appropriate to be spending the entire day working along side Tony Madgwick teaching bee identification and bee survey training to staff and volunteers at Fulham Palace Trust . It turned out to be a really hot sunny day and bees, wasps and flies were seen in abundance. Highlights included Tony finding Cerceris quinquefasciata- previously not recorded in london, loads of Chelostoma campanularum residing in a woodworm ridden dead tree despite an apparent absence of Campanula in the area, Siscus ferruginous, quite a few Andrena species and Megachile ligniseca. We will be conducting monthly surveys here to record the pollinators at the site.

In honour of #VolunteerWeek, we’re spotlighting our incredible sewing bee volunteers! Have you had a chance to see the beautifully embroidered altar cloth in our Victorian chapel? This intricate piece, featuring over 20 motifs inspired by the Palace’s garden, biblical references and symbolism, was meticulously crafted by our dedicated team over the course of two years. In March, the Bishop of London, Dame Sarah Mullally DBE, graced us with a visit to bless the new altar frontal. A heartfelt thank you to our volunteers for their extraordinary dedication and talent!
