About us

We help companies with their biggest challenges – market strategies, regulatory reviews, competition inquiries. And we help governments design innovative policies and regulatory systems. Economics is (nearly) everywhere and the economist’s toolkit is large. Clients are surprised at the breadth of our work. Not just the costs of supply, movements in demand, pricing and competitive dynamics. But we are also experts in finance, statistical modelling, game theory, market research and even the psychological side of economics. And we’ve worked in almost every sector imaginable, from fertilisers and oil rigs to handbags and iPads. In some sectors, economics is so critical that we’ve also built specialist knowledge. Our powerful tools and sector knowledge are valuable. But we try not to stop there. Making an impact for clients means understanding the issues, whether it’s the commercial reality of the business; what is really driving customer behaviour; or the political context. We are also aware that our clients want clear and simple advice, from people they trust. So we place a lot of emphasis on our communications, and on human relationships. We provide complex analysis but plain language – English, German, French or Spanish. Our reports are often used in legal proceedings and so our evidential standards are high. We never “write to order”. Our work is respected because we are independent and obsessive about the truth. We work with clients all over the world and have offices in Berlin, Brussels, Cologne, Dublin, Madrid, London and Paris. Our sister company in Australia works from Sydney and Melbourne.

Frontier was delighted to host the annual Government Economic Service (GES) alumni event in London last month. 🌟 The event featured an engaging Q&A discussion with Frontier Chair Lord Gus O’Donnell and esteemed speaker Professor Dame Diane Coyle, centered around the timely question: "Is GDP a good measure of a society's welfare?" It was a privilege to hear Professor Dame Coyle present fascinating insights from her latest book, “Cogs and Monsters: What Economics is, and what it should be”. The audience was invited to reflect on the standard approaches and assumptions that economists have typically used for decades to make sense of the world and inform policy, and challenged us to consider different approaches that better take into account the reality of the changing and uncertain world we live in, particularly in relation to digitalisation, and the need for diversity and inclusion in the profession itself. #GESAlumni #UKPolicy #GDP

Last week’s King’s Speech saw the announcement of the Budget Responsibility Bill, giving the Office of Budget Responsibility the power to make an independent assessment of major tax and spending announcements by government as a form of #FiscalLock.   Before the UK general election, Frontier’s Chair Lord Gus O’Donnell appeared on The News Agents podcast with Jon Sopel and Emily Maitlis to speak about the importance of independent economic forecasting to provide clarity on the numbers and to maintain the impartiality of the civil service. Frontier’s Public Policy practice regularly works with both the UK and international governments to provide independent analysis, giving policy advice based on our own examination of the numbers, and the measures that contribute to lasting economic growth.   Click here to listen again: https://lnkd.in/d6kEsJs2

Skills England has just been launched with an ambitious remit to transform opportunities and drive growth. The new body will bring together government, training providers, employers and unions to meet the skills needs of the next decade across all regions of the country. Predicting future skills needs is notoriously difficult, but having a view of how the economy is likely to evolve and what skills it will need in the future is crucial for planning. Our recent work with Sheffield Hallam University for the Unit for Future Skills (UFS) at The Department for Education (DfE) to review and assess existing approaches to skills forecasting can be a useful resource. The overarching aim of this project was to support UFS in becoming a centre of expertise on skills forecasts helping it to commission high quality forecasts to inform its own work, as well as to advise on best practice for other parties involved in skills forecasts. 📄 For detailed insights, read our full report, available alongside the review of a UK-specific skills taxonomy https://lnkd.in/eaVUa5hw 🔗 Click here to read Charlynne Pullen’s (Sheffield Hallam University) full article on the study https://okt.to/nkZqX6
