The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) Westminster SME Export Taskforce, which we have contributed to, is out today. FSB was asked to produce this by Jonathan Reynolds MP when he was Shadow Business Secretary, and we were thrilled to be invited to help shape the future of exports. With only 10% of SMEs currently exporting, and 97% of the UK's food & drink manufacturers being SMEs, the findings are more important than ever. Here’s what’s needed to help more start trading internationally: 🌏A cross-Whitehall approach to policy. 🌏A transparent approach to SME exports. 🌏The UK to lead the change in digital trade 🌏Open to export from day one 🌏Addressing the finance gap Read the full report ⬇️: https://ow.ly/IYMB50SKjvg

The Food and Drink Federation reposted this
A busy past couple of weeks for The Food and Drink Federation. Getting to know new Ministers and MPs at our Summer Parliamentary Reception (where it was great to catch up with Daniel Zeichner and where we were grateful for Sharon Hodgson's continued support). Great to hear about Steve Reed's priorities when we spoke over the phone, as well as Jonathan Reynolds MP's on his call with business leaders. In the days since, I very much enjoyed taking part in Siemens #SiemensTransform in Manchester. The future of food and drink manufacturing in the UK is dependent on our ability to #invest and innovate - in new products and processes, to boost their #Sustainability and healthiness, and to grow our #Productivity. Inspiring to speak alongside Brian Holliday, Katherine Bennett CBE, Donna Edwards, Adam Ward and Stephen Phipson CBE. Thanks too to Keith Thornhill for his consistent championing of food & drink. And finally, it was off to Wilton Park to talk #trade and how critical this is to the strength of our #economy. Glad to see EU-UK trade relations in food and drink back on the table. Plenty of improvements to be made to where we are now, and some of them straightforwardly there for the taking. Thank you Tom Cargill. One further shout out to the The Food and Drink Federation's regulatory team on their publication of our latest Food Authenticity Guide. This sets out a simple, 5-step process to help protect businesses from food fraud. A great piece of work - food safety is the foundation stone of everything our industry does.
