We’re pleased to share that Faber Futures has been selected as one of the grantees of the UK Research and Innovation £11.5 million bioinnovation boost, aiming to enhance UK sustainable biomanufacturing. In partnership with Evolutor, a biomanufacturing start-up pioneering precision fermentation for advanced biomaterials, we will test and develop renewable feedstocks for our microbial dye technology. By tapping into industrial side streams, we aspire to create a circular and resilient value chain for textile dyeing and the wider fashion industry that opens up market participation through a decentralised bio-manufacturing model. This joint investment from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), and Innovate UK has awarded 21 collaborative R&D projects from across industry and academia that embrace the biological potential through scalable as well as sustainable products and processes. We are very grateful for having received such a significant opportunity to contribute to the UK’s synergetic efforts driven towards restorative innovation and the 2050 net zero strategy. We will keep you updated on the progress of this work moving forward! #UKRI #biomanufacturing #sustainabledyes #MBEU #projectcoelicolor #synbio #syntheticbiology #bioeconomy #futures #biotechnology #technologyfutures #sustainablefutures #regenerativefutures #biodesign

We are happy to share that NPOL has been nominated by awwwards. in the category of the Best E-commerce Website of 2023. Each year, the world-renowned jury behind the prize, together with the voters, give recognition to the cutting-edge industry projects of the past 12 months. We would like to use this opportunity to thank each pair of hands involved in crafting this project throughout, especially our partners Studio Airport and September Digital, for their joint effort to materialise the palimpsest of ideas it took to breathe life into the Normal Phenomena of Life brand. NPOL’s brand ethos and digital architecture marry biological expressiveness with spirited and mindful innovation enacted by new biotechnologies and interdisciplinary collaborations. Guided by the poetic manifesto—which pays tribute to the immanent wisdom of living—the platform exists as a material record of ethically-driven practices across industries and scales of impact. We are very excited to share that as a returning member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Futures Council on Synthetic Biology, our founder Natsai Audrey Chieza will be participating in the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils from 16-18 October 2023 in Dubai, UAE. It will mark the first in-person meeting of the council members’ two-year term. Council members will discuss and debate opportunities for future advancements and the numerous issues that continue to hamper economic growth and human development. Public and private meetings will provide the opportunity for experts to draw connections across agendas, generate insights that can improve decision-making in the coming years and create transformative change around specific areas. In the session “Deep Dive On Biocities” with Robert Speight on Wednesday 18 October 2pm AST/12pm BST, Natsai will give a talk on how new advances in synthetic biology will impact our lives and the built environment in which we live. Through the use of bio-based materials, the design of living architectures and the engineering of micro-organisms for climate solutions, the session explores the potential for the built environment to be transformed by biotechnology through its materiality and the infrastructure required for the maintenance of living systems. #GFC23

Our founder Natsai Audrey Chieza will join Disegno Publications editor-in-chief Oli Stratford, Danah Abdulla, Ilse Crawford of Studioilse and Philippe Garner to discuss the purpose, politics and gaps of the contemporary design canon. How should the design industry engage with its own history moving forward? Many 20th-century designers who now receive recognition for their work were once neglected for reasons of race or gender, such as Eileen Gray and Beverly Lorraine Greene. As design has begun to diversify, how can we ensure that once forgotten stories are remembered, familiar histories are refreshed for contemporary practice, and the past serves as a point of inspiration for a generation of designers now taking the discipline in new directions? Join us on November 1 for the panel discussion “Designing the Canon(s)” in partnership with Aram Store. Aram, 110 Drury Lane, London, WC2B 5SG Doors open 6.30pm | Talk begins 7.00pm | Drinks 8.00pm RSVP to confirm your free place by emailing your name to [email protected].
