Really interesting article published in The Financial Times recently highlighting industry concerns over the use of AI in CV creation. But is it really that big an issue? Ai is still in its infancy, but we can be sure it will evolve and its here to stay. Regarding its use in crafting CVs, haven't candidates been utilising services like CV ghost-writing services since the mid 90's? Possibly longer. Surely the skill a human recruiter brings, whether they are internal recruiters, HR professionals or external recruitment providers is the ability to 'spot' when a CV has been entirely generated by AI, rather than simply using AI as a tool to check spelling or grammar. Typical indicators of AI-generated CVs can include Americanised spellings (in the UK) and bland, impersonal language. However, you could argue these characteristics can also appear in CVs created by professional CV writers. Our view is that the recent increase in AI-assisted CVs is nothing more than a natural and more accessible evolution of traditional CV writing service. It's likely the trend that will continue. Lets not forget, you don't hire a CV. A CV is merely a sales document of sorts, crafted to get an interview. It may be that users of automated application sifting software are having nightmares about AI beating the filters? At ESSRecruit, we have never, and will never used such tools.
