It’s South Asian Heritage Month 🎉 To celebrate the occasion we hosted a cookery class event with some of our partners last week. South Asian Heritage Month recognizes and honours the rich cultural tapestry and significant contributions of South Asian communities in the UK. This month-long celebration, spanning from July 18 to August 17, is a chance to reflect on the diverse histories, cultures, and traditions that shape our society. During the event we had a hands-on cooking session with everyone learning to create South Asian dishes under the guidance of our chefs who also shared the history and cultural significance behind each recipe. We also we brought together peers across the industry to network who share passion for food and culture. A special thank you to Kirat Kaur Nandra MICM (Grad), Co-chair The Insurance Family Network and a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Leader who joined us and talked about her journey as a South Asian woman and how her culture has shaped and empowered her. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of speaking on networking at Marsh McLennan during the Diverse Perspectives: Empowering Careers Event! 🌟 The evening was filled with insightful discussions and hearing from insightful discussions with esteemed speakers Vezi Ncube, Alison Quinlivan, Skye He, and Maxine GODDARD as they shared their successes, resilience, and lessons learned throughout their careers. 💼 ✨ We also had some fantastic breakout sessions led by Elif Oflaz, Skye He, and myself. One of the takeaways from the event was an intriguing point on whether professional relationships should be mutually beneficial. In short, yes! It’s a great way for senior members to learn from junior members and gain valuable experience for mentoring or sponsorship, which in turn prepares them for future management opportunities.🤝📈 A big thank you to Emily Bridgewater and the wider team for organising the event and to Wojciech Ilowski for hosting the guest speakers! 🚀 What an inspiring day at the Candidate Connect event last week! Hosted by our partners Tokio Marine Kiln, we invited early careers talent and young professionals to learn about the industry and get real-time advice on navigating and building their careers in the sector. They also had the opportunity to participate in speed networking sessions with TMK employees. We had the pleasure of hearing from TMK’s CEO Matthew Shaw and CUO Vivek Syal, who shared their personal stories and invaluable insights into building a successful career in the insurance industry. They discussed embracing imposter syndrome for growth, understanding personal motivation, and the importance of thriving in the right environment. Additionally, Matthew and Vivek highlighted creating learning opportunities through mentorship, active guidance, and continuous questioning, while staying level-headed and seeing the bigger picture. These conversations were a reminder of the value of hard work, networking, passion, and continuous learning. Greetings network, Today I was fortunate enough to attend the candidate connect event hosted by Tokio Marine Kiln & Equity City. In this event, I was able to create connections with crucial people in Tokio Marine Kiln such as the CEO Matthew Shaw and the CFO Vivek Syal. Additionally, I networked with the employees at TMK and other companies for example, Atrium Underwriters Ltd and Allied World Assurance Company Holdings Ltd. It was a pleasure to meet Dezlin Bouw, Denzel A., Owen Kane IRM Cert & Rayon Nelson Cert CII as they explained their roles along with their journey towards insurance and they all had different routes to find themselves in the industry. This event taught me a key lesson: “Your network is your net worth”. Special credit to Matthew Shaw and Vivek Syal for taking the time out of their day to network with us and to discuss their careers. Greetings Network! Last day of my work experience with Equity City. It’s been a busy week, gained invaluable skills, experience and knowledge in the insurance industry. Spent time with an Aon broker Owens Ekhator, a Chubb underwriter Mahfuzur (Mafi) Rahman who explained their roles and how they contribute to the success of their company. Additionally, I took part in a Gallagher CV skills workshop which I immensely benefited from. Met with a MS Amlin HR apprentice Emily Odlum who explained the application process of an apprenticeship scheme in an insurance company. During my week, I successfully completed two tasks. The first task was to create a company brochure this helped me utilise analytical skills and enhanced my creative abilities. The second task was to source potential candidates on LinkedIn recruiter, and I successfully added 100 people to pipelines, this developed my recruitment research skills and highlighted unique candidate achievements. Special credit to BIBA, Lloyd's and especially Equity City for hosting me and making feel at home. I will definitely miss you guys.
