COMING UP THIS MONTH... There is no rest for the wicked, and we've got another busy month of training ahead of us for July. First up we've got a Basic Foundation Design course next Wednesday (17th July) being led by Alan Binns, Geotechnical Engineer and Expert Witness. And if you don't get your foundation fix from that, the very next day (18th July) we've got a Further Foundation Design course which delves into more complex foundation and piling designs. Following that, we've got an Understanding and Scheduling Geotechnical Laboratory Tests course delivered by Chris Vincett on Tuesday 23rd July. Chris then returns the very next day to deliver a SOLD OUT Soil Description Workshop on Wednesday 24th July. Phew. What a week that was. Last Wednesday and Thursday saw the doors swing open for the return of our annual geotechnical conference and exhibition - Geotechnica. Day two of setup at #Geotechnica2024 is done and dusted - that was a busy one! We have some absolutely excellent displays on show this year with loads to see and a massive amount of people to chat to. Geophysical surveys are an innovative, state-of-the-art ground investigation technique. They should be a routine part of most ground investigations for civil engineering projects and mineral exploration. And yet as an industry, we're not currently utilising geophysics to its full potential. Luckily, attendees at Geotechnica 2024 are going to come away with a far more robust understanding of how to utilise geophysics, and what can be done to make the most of it. A vastly experienced engineering geologist and current Chair of the AGS Safety Working Group, Liz Withington of CC Ground Investigations Limited is not short of achievements in this industry. Appropriate scheduling and accurate testing of geotechnical samples is equally as important as the care taken to obtain them. So count down starts to Geotechnica and we are now just a week away. If you haven't decided which day to come then why not visit on both Wednesday and Thursday. It really is difficult to decide which speakers to listen to, as this year we have again assembled leading experts and thought provokers from our industry. Come and listen to what we should be considering to improve our ground investigations and/or come and listen to how we should keep our site staff safer, appreciate the variety of our staff and promote our industry using better methods.
