Day 3 of the Dublin Horse Show is underway at the RDS today, with the Nations Cup sponsored by The Underwriting Exchange taking place in the Main Arena at 3pm. Yesterday our Best Dressed Competition, sponsored by 1664 Blanc, was a huge success with over 200 entrants. Lorraine Ryan Kelly took home our first place prize of €10,000 cash. What makes a horse truly happy? Although objective measures of happiness in horses haven't yet been researched, a recent study suggests that certain behaviours, including whinnies, snorts, and allogrooming, may indicate positive affective states (Bornmann, Randle & Williams 2021). Good equine welfare, and therefore good overall wellbeing and happiness, is often linked to the Five Freedoms - freedom from hunger and thirst, discomfort, pain, distress and fear, and the ability to express natural behaviours - but we're interested in hearing your thoughts on what you believe contributes most to a horse's happiness. 👇
