We heard from Wärtsilä Energy, Wärtsilä on their thoughts of #aef24 🗨 : “It was the right mix of audience/participants. I think we had good meetings with strategic stakeholders and potential customers that could translate to some opportunity in future. Nigeria being one of the focussed countries in the group, it was good to be able to meet with the Chief Technical Adviser to the Minister of Power of Nigeria and share thoughts about their plans and how Wartsila can support the country’s energy/Power supply and decarbonization plans. This would be followed up by inviting them to the ETF in Nigeria later in the year. And Nigeria, hadn’t had the Minister of Power attend the aef in the last couple of years, so this was a good one! I am also privileged to have moderated a key session on, Advancing Gas Projects in Africa, with distinguished panellists like the Minister of Energy for Uganda, Executive Director from Sonatrach, etc.. with all coming with the conclusion that gas has a key role to play in industrialization of Africa even as we journey towards carbon neutrality.” Wale Raphael Yusuff
Africa Energy Forum 2024 is over and what a week it was! 🔥 🎉 Hundreds of energy experts, customers, government officials and partners from all over the world gathered in Barcelona - and a lot of them met with the Wärtsilä Energy team! There were many insightful conversations about our current projects on the continent, the future of energy in Africa, the increasingly important role of flexibility and how our solutions are perfectly placed to play a major role in Africa’s energy future. On a more personal level, lot of fruitful discussions with different stakeholders from all over the continent. I was especially privileged to meet with the Chief Advisor to the Minister of Power of Nigeria 🇳🇬 Adedayo Olowoniyi and discussed our projects in the country as well as Nigeria’s energy future and their efforts to end energy poverty. Thanks to our exceptional team for another brilliant AEF 🌟 , thanks Barcelona, and already looking forward to AEF 2025 in Cape Town, South Africa 🇿🇦!

Congratulations to African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM) for raising $954m in what Paul Frankish, speaking to Infrastructure Investor, has said is “the biggest African fundraise in the last three years”. AIIF4’s fundraising target was exceeded by 50 percent, with over half the capital coming from new investors - noting Africa as a new market with high growth and impact potential. Great news! 🌟 Sola Lawson
We’re thrilled to announce the final close of our fourth pan-African infrastructure fund, AIIF4, at its hard cap with USD748 million in commitments and an additional USD206 million in co-investments, bringing the total to USD954 million. AIIF4 continues AIIM’s strategy to target sustainable infrastructure investments across Africa, which is one of the world's most underserved infrastructure investment markets. AIIF4 focuses on thematic investing across three key sectors: Digital Infrastructure, Energy Transition, and Mobility and Logistics We're grateful for the overwhelming support from our existing and new investors. Together, we're driving sustainable growth and impactful investments across Africa. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dnjt7ZX7

Our Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Solar PV Plant in Blitta, Togo, with a 70MW 4MWh installed capacity, is currently operational and powering more than 222,000 households. We have recently signed a power purchase agreement and concession agreement to expand the capacity of the solar project to 100MW and 14MWh BESS, making it the largest solar PV project with battery storage in West Africa 🌍 To support the economic and social development of the local community in Togo, we have invested in a range of initiatives in the region, including the construction and renovation of primary schools, the construction of a medical clinic with maternity support facilities, and providing a clean water supply. We established an internship program for engineering students from various technical institutions across Togo to gain practical experience at the solar plant. At AMEA Power, we are building more than just renewable energy projects; we are paving the way to a brighter and cleaner future 🌿 #AMEAPower #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #WestAfrica #Sustainability #Togo

New thinking on Africa's electricity problems demands Commitment and Faith 💡 Africa's electricity supply industries are in flux, with infrastructure development hinging on private sector investment. However, existing financial models fall short, especially as urgent investment in transmission remains elusive. At #aef24 in Barcelona, bold new ideas were presented to tackle these challenges, including the African Development Bank Group's proposal for a pan-African currency backed by natural resources. Despite the innovative thinking, implementing these plans requires significant commitment and a leap of faith to address Africa's pressing energy needs. This article was first published in African Energy, the leading independent source of news and analysis on Africa’s energy industries. Read more here >> https://lnkd.in/eH-n7BHd

Excited that the U.S. government's Power Africa collaboration among 12 U.S. government agencies is investing over $1 billion in Sierra Leone's energy sector over the next 5 years. That's not chump change. Real money getting invested from the American people to make real change in Sierra Leone.
