The funding represents a significant milestone in the development of the HyNet CCS project, marking the launch of the UK’s CCS industry and reaffirming our role as a key partner in the country’s journey towards Net Zero. As the operator of the CO2 transport and storage system for the HyNet Cluster and by reusing depleted reservoirs in Liverpool Bay, we will contribute to reducing emissions from hard-to-abate industries in the North West of England and North Wales, transforming the region into one of the world’s first low-carbon industrial clusters. With an initial storage capacity of 4.5 million tonnes of CO2 annually and the potential to increase to 10 million tonnes by 2030, HyNet will play a crucial role in helping the UK achieve its goal of storing 20-30 million tonnes of CO2 per year. #CCS #energytransition #netzero https://lnkd.in/e2WUK6NT

📢 NEWS ALERT: UK Government Commits to Establishing Carbon Capture and Storage Industry 🔸 The CCSA has welcomed the UK Government’s funding commitment to establish the UK’s first carbon capture industries in the North East of England - the East Coast Cluster - and North West of England and North Wales - HyNet. 🔸 Today’s announcement is a key milestone on the UK’s journey to net zero and a significant step that positions the UK at the forefront of global decarbonisation efforts. It demonstrates the Government's clear recognition of the urgency to deliver net zero at pace. 🛠 Decarbonisation does not mean deindustrialisation, and the UK’s CCUS sector will generate 70,000 new skilled jobs and retain 77,000 jobs in critical industries across the UK, all while protecting and futureproofing key sectors like cement, chemicals and manufacturing. 📄 Read the CCSA’s press release here: https://lnkd.in/eRd8KwY4 🔎 Read CCSA CEO Olivia Powis's full statement below. #CCUS | #CarbonCapture | #NetZero

🎊 Happy Heat Pump Week! At Energy UK we recognise the important role that heat pumps can play in decarbonising homes across the country. To celebrate, we’re busting some myths about the technology: “Heat pumps don’t work in cooler climates” - Air source heat pumps can work in temperatures as low as -20 °C when properly installed. [1] “Heat pumps don’t have a long lifespan” - They can last more than 20 years with proper maintenance, which is about twice as long as a gas boiler. [1] “Heat pumps aren’t efficient” - Current models are 3-5 times more efficient than gas boilers [2] and continue to operate at a high level of efficiency in temperatures as low as -6 °C. You don’t have to take our word for it. See the technology in action with Nesta’s ‘Visit a heat pump’ scheme, where you can ask a heat pump owner questions directly: https://lnkd.in/evDw-vxZ In our Mission Possible report, we’ve recommended that the Government takes steps to enable the deployment of more heat pumps across the country. Learn more about this, plus other recommendations to make the UK a clean energy superpower, at https://lnkd.in/evgxXzvP #MissionPossible #HeatPumps #DecarbonisingHeat #DecarbonisingHomes #HeathPumpWeek #FutureOfHeating
