We're proud to have established #rewilding as a core purpose of our business way back in 2013, and it's STILL the heart of our mission today. Our aim is to rewild 50% of the planet by 2050. It's ambitious, sure, but with the help of the global community, we believe it's possible. We don't just hope for the best, though - hope is valuable, but it needs to be paired with a pragmatic strategy to deliver results. So, we came up with guiding values that would help push us towards this long term goal. These values are what we look for in new employees and partners, and what we strive towards ourselves: Desire to learn We are open-minded and innovative. We are eager to expand and share our knowledge, being excited rather than daunted by new opportunities to learn. Committed and tenacious We are willing to keep trying each and every day, seeking ways to help nature recover and improve people’s lives. We will continue to find ways do this, even when faced with failure, because we believe that even in times of adversity it is possible to find great success. Creative problem solver Our team has a solutions-oriented mindset. However, we don’t just present creative ideas – we run with them and turn them into a reality. It's important to us, as a team, to pioneer at the cutting-edge and to ground transformational change. Being pragmatic Our ambitious purpose is underpinned by a practical and pragmatic approach. Our confidence is grounded by experience and technical expertise, so we can put our broad knowledge into practice in unique ways. Do the right thing We aim to lead by example, in terms of our values, company ethos and purpose. We know that living sustainably isn’t easy – but we are aware of our responsibility to do so, and are determined to make this a reality. Are these values are in harmony with your own? If so, why not take a deeper look at our website - perhaps we have a role for you, or maybe we could be the perfect partner for that next big project? Could you help us on the way to rewilding half the planet? Find out more at https://ecosulis.co.uk/ #ecology #biodiversity #environment #greenfuture #climateresilience

🌟Some good rewilding news! 🌟 💚 Two White-Tailed Eagle chicks have fledged from a nest in England, only the second time these iconic birds have bred here for over 240 years. 🐣 The chicks were reared by a pair of White-Tailed Eagles released by Forestry England and the Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation's project to return lost species to England. For more information: https://lnkd.in/eiWX2Gr6 💚 First Beaver Kits in 400 Years Born in the Wild in the Cairngorms National Park Authority 💚 🌱 Beavers released in the Cairngorms National Park have successfully bred and given birth to two kits, making them the first wild-born beavers in the Cairngorms in over 400 years.  For more information: https://lnkd.in/dYVBp4Wg

🔎 Sand Lizard (Lacerta agilis) Spotted at Arne 🔻 The Sand Lizard is extremely rare due to the loss of its habitat. They require both mature, sunny habitats and open undisturbed sand to lay their eggs. 🗺 They have quite limited distribution even within the protected sites so it's great that Ewan Hitchcoe and the team managed to spot one (They are being handled under the instruction of a license holder for welfare reasons). 🔐 They are protected in the UK under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, they are a Priority Species under the UK Post-2010 Biodiversity Framework and they are also listed as a European Protected Species under Annex IV of the European Habitats Directive. 🌻 They feed on fruit and flower heads as well as insects, slugs and spiders. 💚 Their colour varies; they can be various shades of grey and brown, and the male develops bright green flanks during mating season (as seen in the picture below). 🥚 It is the UK's only native egg-laying lizard. The eggs are left buried in sand exposure to the sun which helps them to keep them warm. 🗓 What does a year in the life of a sand lizard look like? 🌱 Adult lizards emerge from their hibernation sites in spring; they breed between April and May. Sand Lizards are dependent on well-managed heathland or sand dune habitats. They love to bask in sunny spots close to mature vegetation. 🌞 Females lay their eggs in May/June; the eggs are buried in sand which is exposed to the sun. 🍂 The eggs hatch between August and early October and the juvenile lizards emerge. 🛌 Sand Lizards hibernate between November and March. 🦎 This pair in the photos were found very close to each other and released together at our temporary receptor site. Our ecologists take photos of the unique markings on their backs so that they can be identified in the future if they're seen again. #Ecology #SiteUpdate #MoorsAtArne #Arne #SandLizard #Reptile #Conservation #Biodiversity

🐕 Unleashing Nature: Dogs as a Modern-Day Wolf Replication 🐺 🎒 Dogs with specially designed backpacks are being used as an aid to scattering seeds to help rewild a nature reserve in East Sussex. This pilot scheme is being run by THE RAILWAY LAND WILDLIFE TRUST LIMITED in Lewes and aims to replicate the activity of the wolves which used to roam our landscape before they went extinct. So why dogs? ⭐ The dogs covered four times the distance that a human does ⭐ They visited areas of the nature reserve that are hard to reach for humans, achieving a more naturalistic spread of the seeds. ⭐ It's a great way to engage members of the public and dog walkers with nature conservation and the reserve. How does it work? 🐶 The dogs put on a specially designed pack with holes in and as they run, the seeds fall out of the packs. They are hoping to see the results of this pilot by next spring. 🌱 Otterly amazing! 🌱 😮 The Otter (Lutra lutra) is truly fascinating! They were once on the brink of extinction due to hunting, habitat destruction, and the use of pesticides, but they have made a phenomenal comeback in the UK. 💚 They have thick brown fur which covers their long, slender body, a thick tail and short legs. They have a broad nose and small ears, with eyes high on their head to enable them to see when they are mostly submerged in the water. 🏊♀️ With a long muscular tail and webbed feet, they are strong swimmers while sensitive whiskers and claws help them catch their prey. 🐟 Otters are carnivores and feed mostly on fish like trout, carp, and eels. They will also eat amphibians, crustaceans, and waterbirds like moorhens and coots as well. 🌊 They will live anywhere there is clean freshwater with a good food source, and areas of vegetation to raise young. Rivers, canals and lakes are ideal, and coastlines if there is freshwater nearby. 🏡 Their nests are called 'holts' and are usually made in natural cavities in riverbanks, tree roots, and shrubby areas, these holts may have multiple (some underwater) entrances. ✅ In the 1980s otters were given their current protection status and certain chemicals were banned which meant water quality improved and ongoing conservation methods mean there is a stable population today. Despite the otter having no natural predators in the UK, the only threat to their population are the activities of humans as pollution and road traffic accidents continue to be a threat. Slightly larger than the Pink Crab Spider in yesterday's post, this Otter was also spotted at Arne by a camera trap set up by some of our team. #NatureConservation #Monitoring #CameraTrapFootage #Biodiveristy #AnimalFacts

🔎 Spotted at one of our sites! 🕷 Pink Crab Spider (Thomisus onustus) This beautiful spider was spotted by one of our ecologists Guy Burstein at Arne, a site in Dorset. The project involves creating a wetland habitat on an RSPB reserve. The site is teeming with life and Ecosulis are providing onsite ecological support for the project. 🌿 The Pink Crab Spider resides in flowers and shrubs in lowland vegetation, preferring warmer areas. 🌻 Females are distinguished by their larger size and ability to change colour between white, yellow and pink as a means of matching the colour of the flower. This cryptic mimicry allows them to protect themselves from predators. 🕸 Males are usually more drab in colour, usually green or brown and they are much smaller in size. 🌸 They live in a wide variety of herbs and flowers, usually staying at the flowering peaks, they are unique in the way they prefer to position itself in flower centres (which have unique spectral properties), over petals. 🌞 The Pink Crab Spider is also different from other relatives by its distinctive lifecycle patterns in which spiderlings emerge in either late summer or early spring. 🌻 FUN FACT: The Pink Crab Spider has developed a mutualistic relationship with the host plants where the spiders deter or feed on harmful florivores (an animal which mainly eats products of flowers) while benefitting from the plant's supply of pollen and nectar which these spiders can use as food sources especially periods of low insect prey abundance. #NatureFacts #Biodiveristy #WetlandCreation #SpiderFacts #UKArachnids

⭐ Salisbury River Corridor Project update ⭐ 👷♂️ We heard from Wil Nixon one of Landscapers who has been working on the project! "The site has undergone a huge transformation in the time I've been working here (the site was mostly just mud and machines in February), but since planting a range of willow species along the bank life has started to flourish and the increase of #marginalplants has meant the water course has been colonised with plants and algae. 🌳 This works is part of a larger vision of bringing nature to a larger part of Salisbury and the expansion of a nature reserve habitat closer to the city centre. Our team have planted about 25 or so large root ball trees which are now bursting with life, supporting a vast array of species. 🦆 Moorhen, ducks and little egret are now foraging in the water and on the banks, life that was not there before and after a short time its great to see nature moving in so quicky!" 🌱 Will, alongside others from the Ecosulis team have been working tirelessly in Salisbury using techniques to ensure nature is always at the heart of what we do. On the project in Salisbury the team have hand weeded (pictured) to circumvent the use of harmful sprays. 💚 We are constantly looking to the future, we are working with nature for solutions and putting nature in the driving seat on a journey towards protecting, enhancing and #RestoringHabitats and #Biodiversity ♻🌳🐃 #NatureBasedSolutions #Sustainability #EnvironmentalContractor #EnvironmentalConsultant For more information about our innovative rewilding projects, take a look at our project case studies: https://lnkd.in/eBat6yzZ
