Melanie is using data from the Protein Data Bank in Europe, hosted at EMBL-EBI, and high-throughput crystallography. She is studying how flexible proteins are at room temperature, as opposed to the cryogenic conditions in which they are often observed. Find out more about Melanie's career trajectory and how EMBL's ARISE programme is helping her retrain. #structuralbiology #bioinformatics
Meet Melanie Schneider, an ARISE fellow whose project combines the bioinformatics expertise of EMBL-EBI with the structural biology competence of EMBL Grenoble. Her research focuses on studying protein flexibility and drug adaptability. Melanie is also exploring how to streamline data analysis with the ultimate aim of facilitating the work of experimental scientists. Read more about Melanie's experience on the ARISE fellowship programme, which trains fellows for a wide range of careers in research infrastructures. 👇 https://lnkd.in/efmCNSGU #researchjobs #researchinfrastructure #lifesciences #drugdiscovery

To speed up early-stage drug discovery, we need robust data management, standardised ontologies and a common vocabulary. A new roadmap, created by the The Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC) together with multiple partners from industry and academia including EMBL-EBI, outlines key considerations for open science organisations involved in developing drug discovery methods. Our PRIDE data resource holds 80% of the world’s public proteomics data. Take a look behind the scenes to see how PRIDE and the ProteomeXchange consortium have exceeded all expectations and how they are managing the deluge of proteomics data. #FAIRdata #bigdata #dataanalysis #computationalbiology #researchinfrastructure
If the genome is the blueprint for building an organism, the proteome is the construction crew along with some of the working materials 🏗. By studying all the proteins in an organism, proteomics helps us understand health and disease. It’s also a crucial tool for making personalised medicine a reality. What are some of the challenges and opportunities for researchers wanting to harness the full power of proteomics? Find out how the advanced proteomics technologies and expertise at EMBL are making a difference, and how they could support your research. https://lnkd.in/g-CxN5u9 #proteomics #bioinformatics #massspec #datascience #openaccess

Congratulations to Nick Goldman for being elected as a new EMBO member. Nick's pioneering work in developing data analysis methods for molecular sequence evolution has advanced our understanding of genomic function and phylogenetic history. We look forward to seeing his future discoveries in evolutionary genomics. #EMBO #genomics #researchexcellence
Congratulations, Nick Goldman and Mikhail Savitski! Both EMBL group leaders have been elected as EMBO members in recognition of their research excellence and scientific achievements. EMBO members contribute to shaping European science and fostering research communities across Europe. Every year new EMBO members are elected, thus enriching the community and bringing in knowledge and expertise in emerging research fields in the life sciences. This year the EMBO community of more than 2,000 scientists was joined by 120 new members, including Oliver Billker, a member of the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine, and eight EMBL alumni. The volume of public proteomics data is rapidly increasing, causing a computational challenge for large scale reanalysis. Introducing quantms, a cloud-based pipeline designed for high-throughput proteomics data analysis. quantms makes use of cloud technology to offer users a scalable and efficient solution for analysing proteomics data making it possible to quantify thousands of proteins at once. Read the paper here: https://lnkd.in/eXddU4ar And get the open source software, algorithms and tools here: github.com/bigbio/quantms #proteomics #cloudcomputing #datascience #bioinformatics #opensource

Today we celebrate EMBL’s 50th anniversary 🎉 and in doing so we are reminded of how curiosity has driven our own missions. EMBL-EBI, established 30 years ago, began as a bold experiment to manage the world’s life science data. Starting with just 39 staff from 10 countries, we’ve grown into a global hub with over 700 experts from over 70 countries. Today, our 40 data resources support millions of scientists and fuel cutting-edge AI like Google DeepMind’s AlphaFold. Being a part of EMBL has created endless opportunities for collaborations and innovation. Happy anniversary, EMBL and here's to at least another 50 years of pioneering science! #EMBL50 #bioinformatics #AI
EMBL’s 50th anniversary symposium ‘From atoms to ecosystems – a new era in life sciences’ is off to a great start today! Our dedicated staff, loyal alumni, supportive member states, ambitious collaborators, generous funders and supporters, and inspiring visitors and partners are central to this milestone. On the special occasion of #EMBL50, a heartfelt thanks to each and every one of them! We wish all the symposium participants a fantastic and insightful conference, and we look forward to exciting talks and lively discussions! For more regular updates follow #EMBL50 or EMBL Events.
