  • On Friday, our Alcohol Care team acute in-patient Tobacco treatment services came together with a number of colleagues and external partners for a fundraising coffee morning to raise awareness around the link between alcohol, smoking and cancers🍰☕ The team have managed to raise £537 for their cause and wanted to give a special mention to Harris the Oxygen engineer to thank him for his generous donation. This was a lovely way to raise awareness for this cause and highlight the important work that this team and their partner organisations do to help our patients.

  • Congratulations to Kerry Jarvis, Ward Manager on C6, who has been awarded employee of the month, September 2024🌟🌟 Kerry was nominated by a colleague and her nomination said: ‘Kerry always puts her patients first and has developed numerous quality improvements to ensure patients receive the care they need, for example, the coodinator checklist. ‘Kerry is respectful to patients, families and all of the MDT members. She is proactive in supporting staff and staff feel like she is very approachable. She always deals with issues in a respectable professional manner and acts with integrity. ‘She also recently developed a bereavement package which is currently being rolled out within the Trust as the End of Life and Bereavement team thought it was a lovely touch to families that had just lost loved ones and was a much more personal approach. ‘Kerry is also currently involved in implementing criteria led discharge which will hopefully enable us to get patients home more quickly and efficiently which will provide positive change.’

  • This week it is #ICONWeek2024, a week dedicated to raising awareness about infant crying and how to manage it, supporting parents and carers, and preventing serious injuries, illnesses, and even fatalities. Yesterday, Midwife for Safeguarding Catherine Walton, along with partners including health visitors and fellow midwives, set up a stand in the entrance of Lancashire Women's and Newborn Centre at Burnley General Hospital. They handed out resources, went to speak to families and did some teaching with doctors. The stand will be there all week so please feel free to pay a visit if you would like to know more or if you need any support managing infant crying. More information is also available via the link https://iconcope.org Thank you to everyone involved in raising awareness for #ICONweek2024 💚💚

  • Children and young patients can now benefit from a mobile sensory unit, thanks to a fundraising campaign by colleagues in the Play Team at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and the hospital’s charity ELHT&Me💗💗 Being admitted to hospital can often be overwhelming or distressing for younger patients, particularly if they have a disability or complex needs and the new equipment on the paediatric ward will help provide a calming support Over £6,000 was raised to fund the equipment, with fundraising events including a Big Paediatric Walk, a five-mile fancy dress trek. Where colleagues from the Children’s Unit braved awful weather to walk from Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital to Darwen Tower. Being admitted to hospital can often be overwhelming or distressing for younger patients, particularly if they have a disability or complex needs and the new equipment on the paediatric ward will help provide a calming support. • It’s #Red4Research Day – an annual event calling on people to wear red and raise awareness of the amazing work going on to support research, including here at ELHT. Groundbreaking research takes place at ELHT every week. We’re a nationally-recognised research centre – this year, ELHT is in the top ten in England for recruiting participants into children’s and stroke research studies. The work our research teams are involved in has gone on to form recommended treatments across the country. Thank you to our colleagues and patients who help make research possible.
