Great to see Eddie Blair, another great example of the outreach work of out Public and Patient Voice (PPV) Panel!
A pleasure to present my patient story “From Scientist to Patient: an unexpected (cancer) journey” to the Addenbrooke’s Cancer Clinical Trials Coordinating team. Apparently the “talk was VERY well received - people were delighted to hear [me] speak and we had excellent feedback from the [CCTC] team. The patient perspective was new for our education sessions and it was really fantastic to have that.” As I said in my talk, I’m relying on such teams to support making even advanced prostate cancer, and maybe many other advanced cancers, curable in my remaining lifetime so that we can live with or beyond cancer. Therefore, it’s important to share the patient perspective🤞🤞🤞🙏🙏🙏.

Research published today in Nature Medicine reveals how whole genome sequencing in childhood cancer and leukaemia improved clinical care for 7% of children, whilst providing all the benefits of standard tests. Congratulations to Sam Behjati and colleagues at Wellcome Sanger Institute, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust on this research - the first time that the impact of using whole genome sequencing in current NHS practice has been assessed - which supports efforts to provide genome sequencing to all children with cancer. https://lnkd.in/eh_Kr9rU #Genomics #GenomicMedicine #WGS #WholeGenomeSequencing #ChildhoodCancer #Leukemia #Cancer #PatientOutcomes #NHS
Cambridge researchers say a genetic test offered by the NHS improved clinical care of children with cancer, and should be provided to all children with cancer. Whole genome sequencing has improved clinical care of some children with cancer in England by informing individual patient care, says a paper led by Professor Sam Behjati at CUH.
