They all took part in the world’s largest AI Hackathon! 🧑💻 Imagine over 1,000 tech enthusiasts racing against the clock to tackle AI and tech challenges. It sounds like an action movie, but it was very real and right on our doorstep! E.ON’s UK Digital team was proud to join this record-breaking generative AI hackathon, led by Google Cloud and Formula E . Our mission? As part of our Strategic Energy Partnership with Coventry City Council, we hosted a roundtable discussion of industry, city and academic leaders at this summer’s Coventry MotoFest event, exploring how cities can prepare for the future of energy and develop transport methods to cope and to thrive. The discussion explored how cities need to adapt to the climate crisis and included the policies needed to drive change across cities, the opportunities for new technologies and how to inspire people to make their own changes at home or at work. Panellists included Councillor Jim O’Boyle from Coventry City Council , Amanda Kangai from E.ON Next Veloce Racing, Kevin Vincent from Coventry University . The rollout of heat pumps is gathering pace across the UK 💪 Over first half of the year, over 30,000 heat pumps were installed across the UK – taking the total to a ¼ of a million across the UK. Heat pumps offer a sustainable future for home heating that can also help customers to reduce their energy bills. We continue to work with the Government to ensure there is support and incentives in place to help the UK continue to install heat pumps to homes. When virtual meets reality… how we’re using VR to deliver green training to our workforce! At our net zero training academy in Kingswinford, innovation is at the heart of our mission to prepare for a sustainable future. Partnering with Focus XR , we're immersing our engineers in virtual reality (VR) headsets to master green skills— everything from heat pump installations to smart metering. So, rather than sending our engineers out to practice in customer homes, we're bringing the homes to them—virtually, of course! By simulating customer homes in VR, we're enabling our engineers to practice, perfect, and gain confidence in a risk-free setting. This means fewer disruptions for customers and more prepared engineers in the field. We're not just teaching green skills; we're pioneering the future of green training. A sweet leap to zero emissions 🌍 E.ON’s Sugar Valley project in Munich exemplifies our commitment to innovative, sustainable energy solutions. Once complete, it will be Munich’s largest project of its kind, providing 6,300 kW of heat and 8,000 kW of cooling through cutting-edge geothermal flooring, heat pumps, and thermal piles. While Sugar Valley highlights our dedication to advanced energy solutions, our ectogrid™ technology showcases our forward-thinking approach. Developed in Sweden, ectogrid™ powers projects across Europe, including Werksviertel, Transurban.NRW, and Milan Innovation District (MIND), setting new standards for urban energy efficiency. Back home, Elephant Park’s CHP plant in London delivers low-carbon heating and hot water, while Silvertown will debut the UK’s first ectogrid™ system, featuring the largest ambient heating and cooling network in the country.
